New Firestop Composite Sheet From STI is Lighter

Advanced Technology Yields Thinner, Lighter Sheet And Improved Performance

Specified Technologies, Inc. has introduced SpecSeal® Composite Sheet, a lighter, thinner, easier -to -handle composite sheet than traditional composite sheet products. A lightweight, rigid, fire -resistant panel, SpecSeal® Composite Sheet is designed to seal medium to large size openings with a variety of different penetrants in both fire -rated walls and floors. It provides an effective seal against fire, smoke and combustion by -products for openings of any shape in common construction assemblies.

Utilizing advanced technology, SpecSeal® Composite Sheet is comprised of an intumescent layer bonded to a galvanized steel sheet reinforced with steel -wire mesh covered with aluminum foil. Because this technology eliminates the use of heavier elastomeric sheet typically found in other products, SpecSeal® Composite Sheet is approximately 1/2 the weight and thickness of competing brands. SpecSeal® Composite Sheet is easier to handle and fabricate and there is less hanging weight on walls. When exposed to temperatures of 350F (177C), it expands up to 15 times its original size (compared with 8 -10 times for competing brands) to form a dense insulative char that minimizes heat transfer.
The UL® Classified Composite Sheet is easy to install using common sheet metal tools. It can be easily cut to fit irregular shapes and easily fastened to concrete or gypsum board with screws or anchor bolts. Used in conjunction with other SpecSeal® Firestop Products or the EZ -Path® fire -rated pathway system, SpecSeal® Composite Sheet seals penetrations for cable trays, cables, conduits, and blank openings. Other applications include metal, plastic, and insulated pipes.
