M.D. Manufacturing, Inc. of Bakersfield, California now offers a central vacuum that automatically shuts off when the telephone rings. Using UPB technology the main power unit communicates to the hose and the VacPan devices sending signals over the powerline to both activate the unit and shut it off when certain activities occur. "All this without having to run low voltage wire makes it quite attractive" says general manager Grant Olewiler.
UPB Technology from Powerline Control Systems in Northridge is quickly gaining serious attention as a truly reliable powerline control system. MD has exclusive rights to use this technology in its central vacuums and is not wasting any time producing innovative, out -of -the -box ideas to integrate the central vacuum with the rest of the home system.
"Often a homeowner might be in a back bedroom cleaning and a long distance from the phone. The slight noise of the powerbrush muffles the sound of the telephone and important phone calls are easily missed," says Olewiler. In fact, the system actually shuts down before the phone actually rings making it quite pro -active.
MD's doorbell module can be connected up to any contact closure device and it too will alert the homeowner by shutting off the vacuum. "It could be connected to a pool motion detector, smoke detector, front door, or any other series of similar items" says Olewiler.
"But this is just the beginning of our direction" continues Olewiler. "Web Mountain Technologies has tied it into their system whereby it can even e -mail the homeowner when the bag is full!" And Olewiler has a laundry list of additional features MD intends to include in the product in the next few versions.
