PSB Speakers Expands their SubSonic Series of Powered Subwoofers with Two New Models

The SubSonic 8 and SubSonic 9 extends PSB's range of subwoofer offerings for greater flexibility in a variety of installation applications

CEDIA Expo, Indianapolis, IN. Sept. 10, 2004 - PSB Speakers, long renowned for affordable excellence, will exhibit two new models of subwoofers, the SubSonic 8 and SubSonic 9, during CEDIA Expo 2004 in Indianapolis today,

Further broadening their SubSonic Series of subwoofers to a total of six models, PSB Speakers introduces the SubSonic 8 and the SubSonic 9 powered subwoofers.

The SubSonic 9 is the perfect compliment to PSB's award winning top of the line Platinum Series. It manages to approach the ultimate performance of the SubSonic 10 in a more moderately sized cabinet. The SubSonic 9's sound quality is identical to the SubSonic 10 and its output capability is only a little shy of the very stupendous levels achievable by the 10.

The SubSonic 8 is a significant step up from the highly regarded SubSonic 6i subwoofer and can be used companioned with Platinum and Image Series systems. Adding both the SubSonic 8 and 9 to the PSB SubSonic lineup provides systems integrators additional choices when accounting for room size and space limitations for PSB system installations.

Both subwoofer models are fitted with dual 10 -inch woofers using a dual opposing woofer design. This design cancels the opposite direction force exerted by a single woofer, which results in no energy loss due to the elimination of these forces as they interact with the cabinet. A highly efficient Class H amplifier delivers an extremely powerful 400 watts of continuous output (500 watts dynamic power) to the SubSonic 9 and 325 watts of continuous output (400 watts dynamic power) to the SubSonic 8. Depending on the parameters of the home theater system, either one will sufficiently deliver high impact bass and subsonics.

As with all PSB subwoofers, as much attention has been paid to bass quality as quantity. The SubSonic 9 uses a new, more sophisticated electronic EQ for even flatter response. Our unique protection circuitry incorporates a long -term limiter specifically designed to not restrain the short -term peaks necessary for realistic bass dynamics. A highly flared low turbulence port gives strong output with very low noise and distortion. The SubSonic 8 has carefully applied equalization giving it very wide and exceeding flat frequency response. Its woofers were chosen for their dynamics, providing clean and tight output at all levels. A highly flared (front and rear) wide diameter port insures pure bass output with no spurious noises.

Both are stylish with a streamlined curved -edge. The SubSonic 9 is available in a finely finished Cherry or Black Ash veneer and massively constructed with 1" (25mm) thick front, back and base. The SubSonic 9 is an excellent cosmetic match to the other members in the Platinum Series and offers additional appointments such as aluminum volume and crossover frequency control knobs on the faceplate, for fast and easy adjustment, plus gold -plated, high -level, binding posts that accept a wide variety of terminations. The SubSonic 8 is available in Black Ash Vinyl Veneer and is easily matched with Platinum as well as a wide array of loudspeaker systems.

The PSB SubSonic 8 and SubSonic 9 can be seen with all of PSB's other products in Booth # 314 at the Indianapolis Convention Center during CEDIA Expo 2004.
