Gefen Unveils 4 -Way High Definition HDMI Switcher at CEDIA

A new ex-tend-it 4x1 HDMI Switcher connects 4 HDTV sources to 1 display via HDMI and switches between sources using IR remote control.

Indianapolis, IN - CEDIA 2004 - Connectivity solutions provider Gefen released its ex -tend -it 4x1 HDMI Switcher at CEDIA. With it, high definition displays become multi -purpose machines with streamlined connections to several high definition video source devices at the same time.

In operation, up to four high definition devices, including satellite receivers and HD -DVD players, are connected to the Switcher, which connects all four devices to one display. To view any one of the video sources, users simply "switch" to the correct input using the IR remote that comes with the unit.

The 4x1 HDMI Switcher is unique because it supports all HDMI -equipped sources and displays. HDMI is currently becoming a standard interface on HD consumer electronics devices in the marketplace. It transmits high definition video in multiple resolutions up to 1080i plus eight channels of digital audio in the same small connector and cable.

Gefen's 4x1 HDMI Switcher, with a MSRP of $349, is HDCP (high bandwidth digital content protection) compliant and comes with an external power supply plus HDMI connection cables to connect all sources to the Switcher. It is expected to begin shipping in October 2004.

Existing high definition switching solutions from Gefen include 2x1 and 4x1 HDTV Switchers that work with video sources and displays equipped with DVI (digital video interface) connectors. Gefen's entire ex -tend -it Professional Series is available for review and purchase online at www.gefen.com.
