3Com and Siemon to Deliver World -Class Connectivity

3Com Teams Its IntelliJack(TM) with Siemon`s Pass-Through Adapter Plates to Provide a Premium Infrastructure

WATERTOWN, CT, April 13, 2004 ? When the University of Utah Hospital (UUH) turned to 3Com Corporation (Nasdaq:COMS) for a fast, cost -effective way to expand network access to its 3,000 users, it had just one basic requirement: a solution that worked with top -quality cabling from Siemon. After investing in a high -end wiring infrastructure to support the bandwidth -intensive applications critical to modern healthcare, UUH was determined to optimize performance at the network edge.

As a result of a strategic alliance between 3Com and Siemon, the Salt Lake City hospital now uses 3Com® IntelliJack(TM) switches, the industry's only system that converts a single Ethernet wall outlet into four switched Ethernet ports, with Siemon's pass -through adapter plates. Each IntelliJack features two optional unswitched "pass -through" ports fitted with adapter plates that snap into the back of the 3Com switch to accommodate state -of -the -art Siemon MAX® connectors. Using this configuration, UUH now has six Ethernet ports ? four switched and two unswitched ? wherever it once had one.

"At 3Com, we believe one network should be capable of driving many Internet protocol -based applications, from voice and data to access control and security video," said Seth Adler, 3Com global marketing manager. "Companies invest in the Siemon Cabling System® because they have a need for a robust cabling infrastructure capable of supporting the growing level of convergence and advanced networking applications. IntelliJacks with Siemon adapters allow them to extend their networks quickly and simply. Working together, 3Com and Siemon can now provide customers with the rock -solid connectivity they need from core to edge."

At UUH, this level of connectivity is supporting thousands of network devices, including computers, printers, a 3Com networked telephony system and specialized beds that deliver continuous readings of vital signs. With so much depending on its data infrastructure, the healthcare center standardized on the Siemon Cabling System ? acclaimed industry -wide for its high quality, reliability and technology leadership.

Siemon's commitment to quality and innovation make it the perfect partner for Ethernet networking pioneer 3Com, according to Carrie Higbie, global network applications market manager for Siemon. "When it comes to overall end -user satisfaction and protection of their network investment, the cabling system specified is of crucial importance. 3Com has distinguished itself by recommending that its customers use high quality, high performance cabling to make the most of their electronics investment," she said. "The 3Com IntelliJack is a great solution when running new cabling channels isn't practical for reasons such as overfilled raceway or lack of available ports in the telecommunications room," she added. "Customers can now purchase 3Com IntelliJacks along with Siemon connectivity."

The 3Com Siemon strategic alliance emanated from Graybar, a St. Louis, MO -based electrical, telecommunications and networking distributor with ties to both companies. "Both 3Com and Siemon are world -class leaders in switching and cabling respectively," said Al Eddings, vice president of communications and data products for Graybar. "It simply made sense to encourage them to create common solutions for our customers' needs."

3Com and Siemon are planning additional joint initiatives to help customers create reliable, high -performance networks.

ELK Products -C1M1 Dual-Path Alarm Communicators with Remote Services

C1M1 offers a truly significant reduction in transmission time in comparison to other communicators that rely on dial capture or data bus decoding. This can result in quicker response time to emergency situations which could save lives and assets. By providing both IP and cellular pathways, C1M1 provides the reliability installers are looking for in an alarm communicator. C1M1 eliminates port forwarding and extra fees for remote access. Installers can remotely upload/download programming changes to M1 controls over IP or cellular using ElkRP2. Consumers can control the M1 remotely via the free ElkLink mobile app and web portal, as well as eKeypad and M1 Touch Pro apps. Other IP-based software and interface partners can connect to the M1 control over the local network through C1M1. C1M1 also provides email/text notifications for arm, disarm, and alarm events. ELK-C1M14GSM supports GSM (AT&T/T-Mobile) networks and ELK-C1M1CDMA supports CDMA (Verizon) networks.
