Engineered for Exceptional Performance and Functionality

The JBL Synthesis SDP -5 is a highly advanced and versatile 7.1 -channel preamplifier/processor that utilizes the most advanced digital technologies, and is engineered for the ultimate in performance. The SDP -5 incorporates four leading -edge Analog Devices SHARC® 32 -bit DSP engines along with a Cirrus® Logic DSP engine, and premium 24 -bit/192kHz D/A converters to achieve the highest possible resolution, surround sound decoding accuracy, dynamic range and channel separation.

The SDP -5 is compatible with popular 7.1 - and 6.1 -channel surround sound decoding formats, including THX Surround EX™, Dolby* Digital EX, DTS -ES® 6.1 Discrete and DTS -ES 6.1 Matrix; it's also compatible with DTS 96/24 high -resolution audio decoding. The SDP -5 also incorporates Harman International's exclusive 7.1 Logic 7® processing, a sophisticated DSP system that provides improved, derived multichannel reproduction from both matrix -encoded and two -channel stereo recordings. Logic 7's Music mode reproduces two -channel recordings through a multichannel system with increased imaging accuracy, separation and directionality, along with a greater sense of envelopment. The Logic 7 Cinema Mode improves playback of any matrix surround -encoded material for a wider front soundstage and smoother, more accurate pans between front and rear.

Along with extraordinary audio performance, the JBL Synthesis SDP -5 offers exceptional connectivity, dual -zone switching facilities and installation flexibility. It provides four coaxial and four optical digital audio inputs, in addition to eight assignable analog input channels that provide a number of configuration options to accommodate stereo audio sources, as well as the 5.1 -channel analog audio inputs from a DVD -Audio, SACD or universal player. The SDP -5 includes an extensive complement of audio outputs, including 8 -channel audio outputs (unbalanced RCA) for front L/R, center, side L/R, rear L/R and subwoofer, plus zone 2 analog and digital audio outputs.

The SDP -5's video switching facilities accommodate a wide variety of video program sources, and include three high -bandwidth component video inputs and a component video output that pass the full bandwidth of HDTV signals for the best -possible resolution and image quality in systems utilizing HDTV video sources and display devices. In addition, the SDP -5 features five S -Video and five composite video inputs, and provides a set of component video outputs, plus main - and second -zone S -Video and composite video outputs.

The SDP -5 is designed to provide total multizone and custom -installation versatility, with independent, simultaneous main zone and zone 2/record operation. In addition to its numerous audio and video connections, the SDP -5 features two RS -232 ports that facilitate integrated system operation with third -party controllers and future software upgrades, one power on/off and one programmable DC trigger control output, and a rear -panel IR input. It also includes two internal upgrade slots and two rear -panel access ports, providing the capability of adding to the rear -panel connections should future upgrades become available.

Extremely sophisticated and flexible in operation, the SDP -5 is also designed for easy operation. It features a large, highly legible front -panel display and logically arranged control buttons, and it can also be operated by its full -function remote control and intuitive on -screen menu system. The JBL SDP -5 is also easy to install. The unit is designed for installation in a standard 19 -inch rack mount, or it can be used as a freestanding component in an audio/video system or on a shelf.

The JBL Synthesis SDP -5 Surround Processor/System Controller will be available through JBL Synthesis dealers in January 2004 at a suggested retail price of $8,000.
