Wins CES Innovations Award for Outstanding Design and Engineering at 2004 Consumer Electronics Show

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA, January 9, 2004 - Universal Remote Control today debuted The Expander™ (MRF -100) RF receiver, an award -winning base station that completes the most comprehensive, compelling new product line introduction in its history. The Expander receiver provides consumers with an affordable and innovative "whole -house" solution to home theater operation.

The Expander is Universal Remote Control's companion base station product for three new highly -functional, IR/RF equipped, remote controls: Unifier™, Automator™, and Customizer™. The combination of the Expander with one or more of these new remote control products enables consumers to set -up A/V equipment in out -of -sight locations such as cabinets, or in different rooms on different floors, while providing the same precise system control as if the system were placed along side the output devices.

The Expander is consistent with Universal Remote Control's other new line introductions in that it delivers custom installation performance priced at a $75 manufacturers' suggested retail price, more akin to the mass market. Because the MRF -100 is outfitted with Universal Remote Control's advanced IR/RF technology, the Expander receives RF (radio frequency) signals from a URC -100, URC -200 or URC -300 remote control, converts them to IR (infrared) commands and sends them to out -of -sight components via built -in front blasters.

The advantage to consumers is that they can add an extra dimension to their home entertainment experience by operating A/V equipment whether they are inside or outside their home. The Expander operates devices from up to 100' (without pointing) and is not impeded by walls, cabinetry, floors and ceilings. Easily installed and seamlessly operated, the Expander is accompanied with a DVD tutorial, power supply, and 6 flashers with 10' cables.
