PSB Ignites Their Line -Up With "Ultimate -Performance" Loudspeakers

The Visually Striking PSB Platinum Series Includes Seven Models; Two Tower and Center Channel Combinations, A Mini-Monitor, A Bipolar Surround, and Subwoofer

PSB Speakers, the Canadian manufacturer long renowned for their affordable high -performance loudspeakers, will feature their newest, no -holds -barred loudspeaker series with a total of seven models during CES 2004 in Las Vegas today.

The latest creation of famed loudspeaker designer and PSB founder, Paul Barton, is the Platinum Series consisting of T8 Tower and T6 Towers, the C4 and C2 Center Channel speakers, the M2 Mini Monitor, S2 Bipolar Surround and the impressive SubSonic 10 Powered Subwoofer. Each model in the series is timbrally and cosmetically matched so any number of combinations can be created, to suite any listening and home theater environment.

The Platinum's faithfully reproduce music with an extraordinary three -dimensional soundstage and deliver the impact and thrills of movie soundtracks that is both magical and spine tingling. According to Barton, "The PSB Platinum Series is our answer to the many listeners who have wondered how much further we could go beyond the celebrated qualities of our Stratus models. We looked long and hard at that, and identified ways to make meaningful, really audible advances in performance and still maintain the value that has always characterized our speakers. I think there will be quite a stir about these speakers. "

The Platinum Series is the result of the most sophisticated design and measurement techniques using the most advanced tools, such as Finite Element Analysis (FEA), laser vibrometry and computer optimization. More important, though, is Barton's utilization of objective measurements and critical listening tests at the world -renowned facilities of Canada's National Research Council in creating the drivers and internal crossovers, in addition to the final products.

"The transparency and dynamics of these speakers is going to get audiophiles talking," Barton says, "as will its pristine midrange and low -frequency impact. The appearance and build quality are going to turn some heads as well. These are exciting products and they are going to redefine a lot of people's expectations of high -end performance."

Several models, including the flagship Platinum T8 Tower, utilize a D'Appolito array that focuses their wide and smooth range over an unusually large horizontal and vertical "sweet spot" to provide exceptionally open, lucid, and dynamic sound with superb clarity, so that groups of listeners can enjoy maximum definition of movie dialog, effects and music.

The genius behind the series is the ability to create various speaker configurations depending on the needs of the customer. There are two towers, T8 and T6, and two center channel speakers, the C4 and C2. The T6 and C2 are significantly smaller for home theaters with less volume or physical space to place speakers. For modest -sized listening -viewing environment or listeners who just prefer the imaging and spatiality of mini -monitors, there is the M2 Mini Monitor. The bipolar design of the S2 Surround speakers provides a combination of sonic diffusion and excellent localization of effects and instruments -for the best of both worlds in surround sound. Whichever configuration you choose, the Subsonic 10 powered subwoofer with its two 12" high power, long -throw woofers powered by an internal BASH, Class H amplifier yielding 500 watts RMS of powerhouse bass will rock your world. Movie soundtrack dynamics will begin to rival "real world" movie theaters.

All Platinum Series loudspeakers are available in real wood veneer, with distinctive die -cast aluminum ends and extrusions, contributing to the overall visual appeal of the speaker, in addition to lowering cabinet resonances. The aluminum clad front panels are both a structural feature and striking visual presentation for listeners who prefer to listen with the grille removed. These speakers are provided with dual, 5 -way gold -plated, solid metal binding posts plus adjustable spikes and levelers, and are magnetically shielded, for use in proximity to video monitors. All woofer midrange drivers utilize woven fiberglass cones. The finishes and cabinet construction are consistent throughout the line for easy mixing and matching of various models.

The Platinum Series will be on display in their hospitality suite at the Las Vegas Hilton Hotel, North Tower Suite H28110 during CES 2004.All models are currently shipping and selling for the suggested retail price listed below.
