Custom Electronic Design and Installation Association (CEDIA) Statement on FCC's 'Plug and Play' Dig

By adopting rules for digital "plug and play" cable compatibility, the FCC supports CEDIA's mission to seamlessly integrate cable and satellite into complete home systems.

Yesterday's action by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) falls on the heels of CEDIA's annual trade show where more than 22,000 attendees saw the latest technology for delivering and displaying high definition programming from broadcasters, satellite providers and cable systems. By adopting rules for digital "plug and play" cable compatibility, the FCC supports CEDIA's mission to seamlessly integrate cable and satellite into complete home systems and provide consumers with simple command of video programming regardless of the source.

Industry professionals discussed the importance of "plug and play" cable compatibility at EXPO during the association's keynote breakfast with Mark Cuban, co -founder of HDNet, and at a roundtable event with leading industry professionals from the manufacturing, broadcast and satellite industries. The successful rollout of HDTV is key to the success of CEDIA members and an issue that CEDIA members have been actively monitoring and lobbying.

The FCC's most recent ruling is a significant step forward in the transition to digital television and a boost to those who support integrated home systems.
