IBC2003, AMSTERDAM - - September 12, 2003 - - Irdeto Access, a subsidiary of multinational media group Naspers (NASDAQ: NPSN and JSE: NPN) and a world leader in content protection and management, today announced that integrated communications provider SureWest Communications (NASDAQ: SURW) has signed an agreement to purchase Irdeto Access' conditional access technologies to support transmission of digital video and video -on -demand (VOD) programming over its new IP -based video network.

Under the terms of the agreement, Irdeto Access will provide Roseville, Calif. -based SureWest with the Irdeto PIsys large -scale conditional access system and Irdeto Access Content Protection for IP. The systems will be installed in fall 2003 and will be integrated into SureWest's fiber -to -the -home (FTTH) and DSL infrastructures for secure delivery of video programming. SureWest is one of the largest independent telcos to date to begin deployment of video over an IP network and will be one of the first in the United States to deploy video simultaneously over DSL and FTTH networks.
Irdeto PIsys is a platform -independent, pay -media conditional access solution. It provides support for multiple operators on multiple sectors, allowing operators on a single network to share an Irdeto PIsys system. Irdeto PIsys can be expanded to handle millions of subscribers as a business' needs develop and includes high -level industry -standard encryption, service or event filtering, configurable bandwidth usage, and IRD fingerprinting, among other features.
Irdeto Access Content Protection for IP is designed to provide the highest levels of protection possible against the theft of content, assets, and revenues. Optimized for operators requiring secure deployment of premium video over DSL and FTTH, it features real -time encryption for superior security; session -based encryption including limited -life keys and encryption of individual VOD sessions; and a secure client architecture. Irdeto Access Content Protection for IP is scalable, easy -to -use, reliable, and affordable.
