SONANCE UNVEILS SONAMP 1650, COMPANY'S FIRST 16-CHANNEL AUDIO AMPLIFIER, FOR HOME THEATER AND MULTIROOM AUDIO INSTALLATIONS

INDIANAPOLIS (September 3, 2003) - Sonance, the leader in architectural audio, introduced the Sonamp® 1650, its first 16 -channel multi -zone amplifier here today at the Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association Expo. The company's most powerful and flexible amplifier to date, the Sonamp 1650 incorporates new digital amplifier module technology from D2Audio®, delivering audiophile sound quality from a digital amplifier, and sixteen channels of discrete power. Each channel is rated at a full 50 watts power at 8 ohms, and all channels can be driven simultaneously at full power within rated distortion specifications. The Sonamp 1650 is designed with features specifically suited to Sonance 1650 Amp / Page 2 multi -zone home audio systems as well as home theater sound system applications.

"Sonance is passionate about providing the highest quality and best performing products in the industry. We are continuously working with our partners, dealers and the custom installers to develop the best products that best suite their client's needs," said Hal Hufford, vice president of sales and marketing at Sonance. "There are two trends that we see in the marketplace. We are seeing multi -zone audio systems with more than six zones and seven or eight -channel home theater systems. These trends will immediately make the Sonamp 1650 amplifier an important product in our line."

Hufford also noted that the Sonamp 1650 integrates well with the company's new Navigator Control system also being showcased at CEDIA 2003.

Recognizing the custom installer's need for reliable, powerful and efficient audio amplification, Sonance built the Sonamp 1650 with a new digital amplifier module technology from D2Audio. The 1650 uses dual D2Audio amps that are ultra -compact, allowing Sonance to create a low profile, lighter, and cool running high power amplifier.

Conservatively rated at 50 watts per channel (all channels driven), the1650 is built to handle anything that is put in its way. Pushed to its limits, each channel has the ability to deliver up to100 watts @ 8 ohms (4 ohms stable) to satisfy even the most power hungry movie or music needs.

A key issue for installers is an amp's ability to meet the design configuration required of the installation. The 1650 delivers. The amp comes with a wide array of inputs and outputs, including a 37 -pin D -Sub connector for simple one wire connection of the 16 channels of audio (a 37 -pin D -Sub to eight stereo RCA board is included), a second 37 -pin D -sub for loop out, RJ -45 connector for RS485 communication, 9 -pin D -Sub for RS232 communication, and eight, 4 -pin screwless quick connectors and speaker outputs that can handle 20 - 14 gage wire. The front panel has an installer friendly array of controls and a 2 x 20 character VFD display that allows access to needed controls and functions.

Like all Sonamps, the 1650 is designed to work in a shelf system, such as an armoire, or hidden away in a rack mount system, using rack ears included with the product. In addition, the amp is constructed with a heavy -duty, all metal chassis designed for long life, efficient cooling, and durable operation. Suggested retail is $3,000.
