Energy Cost and Deregulation Woes
Because it has access to all devices and appliances in your home, a smart gateway can apply pre-programmed guidelines to prioritize, cycle, and alter set-points to bring energy output down to pre-established levels. It can also send you warnings or alerts, giving you the option to override the system and make your own choices about what to do. About Residential Gateways
The residential gateway is an intelligent networking device that provides two-way connectivity between internal home networks and external Internet access networks. It utilizes existing access networks such as DSL, cable, or regular phone lines and allows the delivery of a nearly endless array of residential services, both existing ones and those yet to be developed.

Advanced residential gateways also allow for different home devices -- say the security system and the lighting or entertainment systems -- to interact with one another. They allow access to these multiple networks, devices and services with a single point of connection, from your PC, mobile phone or other handheld device.
