DETROIT EDISON AND DOMOSYS OFFER ENERGY SAVING MONITOR
QUEBEC CITY Detroit Edison and Domosys have partnered to provide customers a cost-effective energy-monitoring module. The DomoMeter can provide utility customers energy savings, appliance protection, expanded home automation and the ability to respond to time-of-day energy pricing signals. The module has application in residential and light commercial settings.
"DomoMeter is the fruit of a close partnership between two leaders of the home networking industry," said Evan Price, president, Domosys Corp. "We have combined intellectual property, industry knowledge, market research and technical know-how to create a new class of appliance meters. This is the formula for winning products."
Utilities will benefit from the DomoMeter through the products' ability to implement effective time of day pricing and enhanced network management by selective load shedding. DomoMeter can be especially effective in applying controls to appliances such as window air conditioners, dehumidifiers, freezers and refrigerators.
"Until now, the ability to monitor appliance energy use has not been cost effective," said Robert Buckler, president and chief operating officer of DTE Energy Distribution. "This product has the potential to economically change the way residential and light commercial customers use their appliances selecting reduced energy use during peak demand periods in return for a substantial price reduction."
Detroit Edison, an investor-owned electric utility serving more than 2 million customers in Southeastern Michigan, is the nation's seventh largest electric utility. The utility is the principal subsidiary of DTE Energy, a diversified energy company involved in the development and management of energy-related businesses and services nationwide.
