A new column for the HTINews ... What We Need Is ...! Send your needs to bobh@hometoys.com and we'll see what we can find or at least use this column to let those manufacturers and software engineers know what it is that we the consumers want to buy and use. Please let me know if these things are available, coming soon, good idea or just plain crazy. I'll keep the threads going as long as the feedback keeps coming in.
Hi Bob,
Just read your column in the Aug 97 HTI News. I'd like to see the
addition of DiSEqC v2.0 control to home automation controllers,
at least for use in Europe. Modern satellite IRDs and components
are being made DiSEqC compatible; that is to say the components
act like "Plug'n'Play" would in a modern PC. This would
be a golden opportunity for HA manufacturers to add configure and
control capability for the entire downlink chain in a satellite
setup, from the LNB to the IRD.

OK gang, help me out here. I'm not familiar with DiSEqC.
I mentioned the idea for a OneForAll style remote control with a small microphone built in to Mike Elder over at Applied Future Technologies (HomeVoice). He sounded interested in the idea. Maybe we'll see one soon. I think it should be called "Bob's Big Mouth" and be shaped like a head rather than the bigfoot shape previously used. Talk in the ear, toggle the nose and read messages in the blinking eyes. Of course we'd need male and female versions as I wouldn't feel comfortable whispering into the ear of an Alfred E. Newman lookalike.
