SmartLincTM Expands Remote Control Switch Product Line with "Silent Relay"

IRVINE, Calif. (June 25, 1999) – SmartlincTM, a leading designer and manufacturer of innovative, affordable home automation products, today introduced the SwitchLinc 2-Way Silent Relay, a powerline carrier (X-10 compatible) remote control relay switch. The Silent Relay adds control of non-dimmable devices like fluorescent lights, electronic ballasts, halogen lamps, and low voltage lighting transformers to SmartLinc’s family of two-way powerline remote control switches. Silent Relay eliminates the loud "click" normally associated with appliance modules and automated relay switches.

The Silent Relay has many of the features of the original SwitchLinc 2-Way product, including the ability to both send and receive X-10 commands over a home’s existing electrical wiring. This bi-directional capability allows the Silent Relay to be queried by intelligent controllers to confirm its on/off status, giving the installer/homeowner reliability and other benefits of more expensive, labor-intensive hardwired switches. The Silent Relay can also control other switches (both dimmable and not) for scene lighting, and can be a member of up to 64 lighting scenes itself.

Each Silent Relay switch has an easily programmable primary address, and can be set to turn its controlled circuit off after a time delay of up to 9 minutes, allowing the homeowner to leave the room before the light turns off. Other features include true rocker action, 600 watt load control, multi-way lighting capabilities, and a nightlight/status light LED that makes the switch easy to locate in the dark and displays powerline communication activity. As with SmartLinc’s other SwitchLinc 2-Way products, the Silent Relay has SmartLinc ENR, an enhanced noise reduction circuit.

"The addition of Silent Relay to our product line means our customers can fulfill all their lighting control needs from one source," said Joe Dada, SmartLinc President. "Plus, this switch doesn’t require running any new wiring, so any home can have the convenience of noiseless remote control of fluorescent lights."

"I’m proud that SmartLinc has brought a switch to market that eliminates the annoying "click" that other appliance modules and relay switches have," said Scott Klodowski, SmartLinc National Sales Manager, New Business Development. "Now customers can switch on fluorescents and other non-dimmable lighting with the same quiet efficiency that they’ve come to expect from our SwitchLinc 2-Way powerline dimmer."

The Silent Relay’s suggested retail price is $109.99. The product is expected to ship in mid-July, and orders are currently being taken.

SmartLinc sells its products through distributors and dealers. Contact SmartLinc at 888.540.9955 ext. 163 to request a complete product catalog or to place an order. SmartLinc is located at 17201 Daimler Street, in Irvine, CA, and its website is located at www.smartlinc.com.
