PANJA INTRODUCES NEW PRODUCTS AND SERVICES THAT DELIVER INTERNET ENTERTAINMENT, INCLUDING MP3, TO TVs, STEREOS ... AND MORE
Panja 1000 Entertainment Gateway Delivers Internet Audio, Video, Radio to Home Entertainment Systems Through Breakthrough EP3TM Technology

Dallas, TX, July 19, 1999 -- Creating a whole new market for entertainment, Panja announced today it is giving consumers instant random access to exploding Internet audio and video content ... and sending it right to the entertainment devices in our homes today.

The company’s Panja 1000 entertainment gateway is a new system that installs in homes and connects the Internet directly to existing stereo’s, TVs, and VCRs through a Panja/Cisco branded cable modem (see related release). The company is also announcing the Panja 2000 home control and information gateway. Panja 2000 provides total home control and enables the delivery of Internet information to non-PC displays including wireless touch-panels and LCD keypads.

"We share a common vision of the importance of extending broadband connectivity to and within the home, and giving consumers fast, easy access to valuable content and services,"

said Robba Benjamin, vice president and general manager of Cisco Systems’ Consumer Line of Business

Additionally, Panja is delivering a set of subscription services which, when coupled with Panja 1000 or 2000, allow consumers to harvest the Internet’s rich digital cornucopia of entertainment without being shackled to a PC. The new subscription services include Broadband BlastTM, which delivers streaming Internet audio and video; IControlTM, allowing people to control and monitor their home through the Internet; and PanjaCastTM which delivers custom information to touch-panels and keypads.

"We believe we are at an inflection point, literally changing how we are entertained,"

said Panja Chairman John McHale.

"At the touch of a finger on a sleek, wireless hand-held panel, Panja delivers instantly to our stereo’s, TVs, and VCRs the incredibly vast entertainment on the Internet. The PC is no longer exclusive intermediary for the Internet."

To make it possible, Dallas-based Panja today unveiled breakthrough technology called Entertainment Processing Level 3 (EP3TM). EP3 is the "magic" inside of the new Panja 1000 entertainment gateway, through which Internet entertainment is directed to homes. EP3 selects and decodes MP3, MPEG, Real Audio, Real Video and other encoding schemes.

"Imagine instant access to any song or video you want, without loading a CD or going to a store,"

said Panja CEO and President Joe Hardt.

"And you can pull down to the stereo in your living room any radio station broadcast from anywhere in the country, like having a ten-mile high antenna on your roof. Access anywhere, anytime to any music you want."

Panja will be delivering three subscription services this fall:

  • Broadband BlastTM, the exciting broadband entertainment link to a new Internet experience on home entertainment appliances and systems. This breakthrough service is blasting out of the gate to meet a huge, hot demand for online multimedia away from the PC. It lets consumers -- whether from couch, patio, family room or bedroom -- draw down MP3, MPEG video and the complete range of Internet streaming audio and video content and direct it to big screen TV, stereo receivers and other entertainment sites. Broadband Blast is $19.95 per month.
  • IControlTM, the solution that gives people remote control of their homes from the Internet, it charts new territory only talked about to date -- the vanguard of a future in which appliances throughout the home will talk to the Internet, and to each other. For example, a person could go online from a remote location to check home and office security systems. IControl is $9.95 per month.
  • PanjaCastTM, IP home "narrowcasting" that delivers personalized information from the Internet to wireless touch-panels and LCD keypads within the home. Information such as local traffic, weather, and news briefs can be conveniently accessed without booting up a PC. Panjacast is $9.95 per month.

Many of these services are delivered in partnership with Infoseek (see related release).

"Infoseek is excited about having Panja as a new distribution channel,"

said Infoseek Chairman Steve Kirsch.

"This is win-win for everyone -- for Panja, for Infoseek but most of all for the consumer."

Panja has priced the Panja 1000 to be affordable by the broader market. The Panja 1000 entertainment gateway solution, including touch-panel and EP3 engine will ship this fall. US list price is $2495. Panja 2000, available in the fall, will be priced at a later date.

Panja is the leader in extending the Internet beyond the PC. Panja holds coding knowledge of more than 20,000 appliances and devices, and is worldwide leader in network and control technology for residential, commercial and educational applications. With nearly 1,600 consumer and enterprise dealers and 16 years of control and automation experience, no other company has a deeper understanding of the Internet as it relates to consumer and commercial appliances.

These services include Infoseek’s award-winning search engine; commerce connections from more than 2 million products from hundreds of retailers and service providers, and original programming content from leading consumer brands like ABC, Disney, ESPN and ZDNet.

Cisco provides the broadband capability needed to bring the Net home to Internet appliances. Cisco Systems is on the Web at www.cisco.com.

Panja ( www.panja.com ) is extending the Internet beyond the PC and for the first time linking home and business appliances seamlessly and meaningfully to Net content and services. Panja is a new type of Internet company, with leading-edge technology that is slashing the bonds of the PC and cutting through marketplace clutter to offer remote control solutions for the Broadband IP home and business. Panja is creating a whole a whole new market for entertainment and creating opportunity for content providers, people who build broadband infrastructure and consumers. Panja is cutting away the complex technology currently required to unleash the potential of the Internet and to replace it with simple, intuitive devices that allow consumers to focus on the Net’s information and its practical uses.
