HOME AUTOMATED LIVING, LLC. and DOMOSYS partner
to deliver next generation operating system for home networks.

HAL 3000 SOFTWARE TO SUPPORT CEBus AND HOME PLUG & PLAY

Quebec City, Canada – May 25, 1999 – Home Automated Living (HAL), makers of the award-winning software HAL 2000, announced today a product development partnership with Domosys Corporation. The immediate result of this partnership will be to make HAL 3000, Home Automated Living’s professional series software, CEBus / Home Plug & Play ready. Domosys will contribute its CEBus/Home Plug & Play-compliant power line communication technology to the partnership.

Other members of the HAL software product line provide control of X-10 and a host of other proprietary devices. The HAL 3000 will support X-10 and CEBus, and thus will be able to offer even greater monitor and control capabilities than its predecessors. "We recognize the ability of the CEBus / Home Plug & Play protocol to deliver additional benefits to consumers", said Tim Shriver, President of Home Automated Living, "and once the decision was made to go in that direction, the obvious company to partner with was Domosys".

Features, such as reporting the state of a product, executing complex scenarios, robust 2-way communication and interfacing with an appliance’s data port, are examples of the unique home networking capabilities made possible by applying the CEBus / Home Plug & Play standard.

HAL software integrates control of all the systems of the home, including lights, appliances, security, climate, home theatre, telephone and the Internet on the home PC. HAL enables the user to control those systems by voice from anywhere in the house – or from anywhere in the world.

Domosys has supplied Home Automated Living with its CECom power line modem and ActiveX windows driver. The latter acts as the driver between the modem and any Windows application running on a PC, such as the HAL 3000. "We are excited about working with Home Automated Living," says Evan Price, President, Domosys Corporation. "Their product is innovative and is well suited to our technology. As we look beyond the development phases, we expect that the home networking market will respond very favorably to the state-of-the-art software HAL 3000 will be."
