Global Converging Technologies and InteliHome Announce
Merger
Dallas, TX. - (April 27, 1998) Global Converging Technologies Inc. of Bedford and
InteliHome Inc. of Dallas announced that the firms have completed a merger of the two
companies. Global Converging Technologies, Inc. will be the name retained for the new
company.
In December, the two companies formed a strategic alliance to begin working on the
integration of GCT's 900 MHz Digital Spread Spectrum Wireless PBX network communication
system with InteliHome's Residential Gateway Manager (RGM) home and office control
software.
According to Greg Jones, president and CEO of the new company, " It was just a great
fit. The two teams worked well together on a day-to-day basis for several months and we
found that our visions for the future of in-home communication systems and home control
are completely in synch. InteliHome's gateway software (RGM) and their strong engineering
group form the nucleus of our product development team. We are currently adding additional
engineers and we are on track with our product development schedule."
GCT's initial product offering will be a Wireless PBX for the home which will support up
to 4 incoming lines and up to 8 simultaneous voice conversations. In addition to
supporting voice, this central base will support data applications by distributing the
power of the PC throughout the home. Information from the PC and the Internet will be
distributed to cordless handsets and cordless touch screen devices. The central base with
two cordless handsets is expected to retail for less than $500. Follow-on upgrades to the
initial package will include home control software to manage lighting, security, HVAC and
other systems.
Michael Cogbill, former chairman of InteliHome, commented on the merger, "By hosting
RGM on GCT's platform we will be able to expand the market for this software from the new
construction market to the entire residential market through the wireless platform
provided by GCT. As we move forward, virtually any home in America will be able to
automate their homes without having to change wiring."
"We already have a great deal of interest within the telecommunications and utility
industry for our wireless voice and data solution," according to Steve Hansen, Vice
President and Marketing, " and manufactures of lighting, HVAC and security products
are tremendously excited about the prospects of RF control. We are also pleased that
InteliHome's CEO, Tom Brunner, and Chairman, Mike Cogbill, will continue to work with us
on marketing and strategic alliance development."
Funding for product development will come from Venture Capital firms based in Chicago and
California.
