Voice Trek™ is an affordable voice activated home environment control system. For about the cost of a large screen TV, up to eight rooms can be voice activated. Single room voice control of X10 modules can start as low as $399. The software supports the X10 CM11A interface and X10 modules including the new two-way modules. Using speech recognition technology, the software forwards appropriate commands to the CM11A which in turn uses existing home wiring to control lights and appliances. Text to speech technology is used to provide the software interaction. What was once science fiction is now very much a reality. With Voice Trek™ you can perform the following actions simply by uttering a few voice commands:

ACTION EXAMPLE COMMAND
Turn on, off, dim, or brighten X10 modules "Set Living Room Light to 75%."
Execute an ActiveHome Macro "Set Stage Romance."
Send a pre-recorded message for help to 911. "This is an emergency. Call for help!"
Get the current time or date from your PC "What time is it?" or "What's today?"
Set the sound card volume "Set play back volume to 85%."
Undo the previous command "Undo."

And that's not all! Actions can be delayed. For example, you could say "In 2 hours. Turn on outside spot light." Voice Trek™ can also remind you that a light/appliance was left on. For instance, Voice Trek™ may say "Coffee Maker is on. Would you like to shut it off?". Voice Trek™ is completely interactive. That is, for each command it understands it responds in a voice you can control. For example; if you say "Turn on Outside Spot Light", Voice Trek™ will respond "Turned on Outside Spot Light" after completing the task. This way, you will always know what action was executed regardless of where you are in your home (you may not be able to see the outside spot light from your hot tub!).

Speech processing is powered by Dragon System's DragonDictate. Dragon Systems, Inc. is known world wide as the leader in speech recognition technology. Advanced Home Automation tested virtually all major speech recognition products and found none to compare to the speed and recognition accuracy of DragonDictate in the home environment. Voice Trek™ software has correctly understood as many as 290/300 commands. That's nearly 97% recognition accuracy!. The home environment can at times be very noisy. Environmental sounds such as washers, dryers, microwaves, and air conditioners, are eliminated in multiple room versions of Voice Trek™ using the new ACP-88 Compressor/Limiter/Gate by PreSonus Audio Electronics. In our experience, the quality, durability, and performance of PreSonus compressor/limiter/gates are unmatched in the industry.

Voice Trek™ System Requirements

  • 166 MHz Pentium (minimum)
  • 32 MB RAM (minimum)
  • Sound Card (Sound Blaster compatible)
  • PC Speakers
  • Full-Duplex Voice Modem (optional)
  • Windows 95

Voice Trek™ software has the look and feel of X10's ActiveHome™. The similarities were deliberate to allow an easy transition between software packages. In fact, Voice Trek™ can open existing ActiveHome™ data files and vice-versa. Users no longer have to maintain multiple HA software packages. Changes made to Voice Trek™ will appear the next time you open the file with ActiveHome™. Modules available for voice control are displayed with a microphone icon. In the screen shot below, Voice Trek™ is monitoring housecode A. Changing housecodes is easy. Voice Trek™ uses ICWA words to represent housecodes. For example; just say "Monitor housecode Charlie" to change the monitored housecode to C.

The future of voice activated home environment control systems will be limited only by the imagination. Imagine software that automatically gathers information from the Internet before you wake up each morning. You sit up in bed and say "What's today's forecast?", "Traffic report please.", or "What's my schedule today?". Software that reminds you of important dates such as birthdays, anniversaries, etc. Car starters are becoming very popular. What if you could just say "Start the Buick." instead of having to find the remote. All this and more is planned for future releases of Voice Trek™ software. The possibilities are endless, and there are no limits. Welcome to the future. Your voice is our command!
