Telect’s New Configured Router Distributes High-Quality Signals at an Affordable Price; Ideal for Home Environments

Router Offers High Performance, Breakaway Capabilities, Cost Savings Will Debut at 1999 Home Automation Show

LIBERTY LAKE, Wash.—Telect, an international manufacturer of audio and video system control equipment, is releasing a new cost-efficient stand-alone configured router ideally suited for distributing high-quality audio/video signals throughout the home. The product, called the Mica Peak™ 8x8 Configured Router, features broadcast quality circuitry for high performance audio/video switching and control.

The new router is targeted toward users who need high-end signal management capabilities, but do not need a large configurable routing system. The product will debut at the upcoming 1999 Home Automaton Show & Conference, February 6-8, in Orlando, Fla., Booth #441.

The Mica Peak Router comes in three different configuration choices, allowing users to select the right model for their specific application. Users save money by buying only the capabilities they need, rather than purchasing a fully featured routing system. Configuration choices include: 8x8 Composite, 8x8 S-Video, and 8x8 CS (4 composite and 4 S-Video). Each configuration also has 8x8 stereo audio channels for routing audio throughout the home.

A unique and useful feature not normally found on routers in the home automation environment is the Mica Peak’s ability to breakaway audio signals from video signals. This function is common on commercial broadcast routers, but until now was not available to home users. With breakaway capabilities, users can switch to the front doorbell audio while watching the TV video, or keep the TV audio on and breakaway the video to see who is ringing the doorbell. Homeowners appreciate this added flexibility.

Other key product features include:

  • A compact chassis occupying only one 19-inch rack unit
  • Rack mountable or free standing chassis
  • RS-232 interface
  • Interfacing capabilities with most third party controller systems (such as PHAST, Crestron, AMX, and SmartLinc™)
  • 75-ohm video output impedance
  • 50 MHz video bandwidth
  • System bus with looping capabilities for future expansion
  • Optional front-panel local controller with LEDs and push button matrix

The 8x8 configured router is the first product in Telect’s new Mica Peak product line, a family of innovative audio/video products and accessory items geared for the home automation environment.
