San Diego, California February 16, 1999 Domosys Corporation unveiled today its CEBus Wall, demonstrating CEBus/Home Plug & Play interoperable products from six different manufacturers. A dozen devices mounted on the wall communicate data to each other over existing power lines. Products using this technology form an intelligent network without the need of a centralized controller, as seen in earlier home automation systems, said Evan Price, President of Domosys Corporation. This first demonstration of real and available products shows the promise of interoperability that CEBus and Home Plug & Play offer.
Devices residing on the network have an intelligence of their own, recognizing other remote devices and identifying the ones they should communicate with. For instance, a thermostat would distinguish between a heater and a garage door. The thermostat would understand that it should communicate with the heater and bind itself to this device thus controlling room temperature. Benefits to end-users are ease of use, easy installation and no need to add new wires since this technology uses existing power lines as its data carrier.
Some manufacturers benefiting from this technology are Smart Corporation, Leviton, RCS, Cutler-Hammer, AM-Source International. All of these companies are offering products using the Domosys Family of CEWay power line transceivers.
Smart Corporation
is showing their latest development efforts. The SMART Energy Control Center allows lighting, security, load control and monitoring to be integrated into a single, seamless control network. It provides a user-friendly ATM-like interface for managing the entire integrated control network. The SMART Security Module is designed to interface to most standard security systems. When an alarm is triggered, or a mode is activated, the CEBus control network can respond by flashing lights, shutting down chosen electrical systems, shutting down the HVAC system, and activating whole-house scenes and lighting groups. SmartSwitches provide programmable control of electrical outlets, lights, fans, motors and appliances. The SmartSwitches like any CEBus device can be connected to the SMART Energy Control Center. www.smartcorporation.com Contact Mike Isaacs at (505) 521-6000Leviton
is showing the C225-C Plug-In Duplex Receptacle, a self-contained CEBus/Home Plug & Play node. By plugging this product into a standard 120 VAC-15Amp receptacle, the user acquires two controllable receptacles which are capable of both local/manual and remote/network activation. The C225-C can be used to bring interoperability and remote controllability to applications such as lighting, hot water heaters, air conditioner and a wide variety of electrical appliances.www.leviton.com Contact Anne Marie Grady at (718) 281-6030
RCS
is showing their TC36 Messaging Thermostat with CEBus Interface. The TC36 connects to and controls HVAC mechanical system via standard thermostat connections. Normal local control of the HVAC system is provided by the TC36 Wall Display Unit, which has a 128 X 64 backlit graphical display, 6 buttons with on-screen labels and 4 LEDs with on-screen labels. The system is adaptable to hydronic, radiant and other types of independent heating and/or cooling systems.www.resconsys.com Contact Mike Kuhlman at (888) 727-4822
Cutler-Hammer
with their Advanced Power Systemä provides an economical way to monitor and control energy usage in the home or business. This system is economical to install because it uses equipment found in every building, the loadcenter and existing wiring. The APS provides direct remote control of dedicated circuits such as air conditioners, water heaters, pool and hot tub pumps, and lighting. Energy use can be monitored so that the home or building owner can determine where electrical energy is being used. This provides a homeowner with the information they need to manage energy usage, or take advantagewww.cutlerhammer.eaton.com/apc Contact Jeff Vaughan at (412) 494-3718
AM Source International
is introducing the D-8 Motorized Headrail for window blinds and shades. The D-8 has become an industry standard and now interfaces to CEBus power line networks. The mono-drive mechanism operates a horizontal blind allowing one motor to raise and lower the blind as well as tilting the slats. When using one motor to operate several blinds or shades, installations can be done separately or coupled together easily.Contact John Karas at (847) 526-1515
Domosys Corporation
has OEM products giving power line communication capabilities. The CEComä PL Modem connects a stand-alone product with an RS-232 interface such as a PC, to a CEBus power line network. The DomoMeterä is a third-generation power monitoring and load shedding communicating module. Developed in partnership with Detroit Edison, the DomoMeter incorporates Detroit Edisons patent pending technology and market research. DomoNetä allows installers to easily qualify a power line control network and determines transmission success rates set at different points in a building. Another product is the CEBus Power Line Signal Coupler. When installed at the loadcenter, it facilitates CEBus communication between L1 and L2.Headquartered in Quebec City, Canada, Domosys Corporation is the premier provider of power line transceivers, integrated circuits, development tools, services and specialty products enabling low cost and reliable solutions to devices requiring power line carrier communications. Founded in 1994, Domosys is one of the fastest growing privately held companies in North America providing CEBus power line solutions. Shareholders of the company include Hydro-Québec, the Société Générale de Financement, the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, Hafslund, Innovatech Québec and other private Canadian and American shareholders.
