AMP Introduces OnQ Enhanced Telecom Modules

Harrisburg, PA (February 6, 1999) - AMP Incorporated, the world leader in home wiring systems, today introduces two new Enhanced Telecom Modules for the OnQ Home Wiring System at Booth 516 at the HAA show in Orlando, FL. Both new modules allow performance testing to ensure high-quality end-to-end connections. The new modules snap into the modular OnQ system enclosure from AMP to provide distribution of telecommunications signals throughout the home.

The new 1x8 Enhanced Telecom Module supports distribution of one to four phone lines to up to eight telecommunications outlets. A dedicated home office data communications outlet allows distribution of wideband services such as ISDN and xDSL, and the module also includes an integrated RJ31x jack for interfacing with most security systems.

"Just as commercial installations must be tested to ensure system performance, the growing number of homeowners with in-home networks and access to wideband data streams is making residential performance testing critical," according to Todd Regar, Business Manager for AMP’s Building Systems Division. "When used with OnQ Category 5 twisted pair cable, the new modules and OnQ data communications outlets will support data transfer speeds of up to 155 megabits per second."

The 8 Port Telecom Expansion Module, also introduced at HAA, supports up to eight additional phone outlets. Additional expansion modules can be added to provide as many telecom connections as necessary. Optional surge suppression capabilities are also available for the new modules.

AMP Incorporated is the world's leading supplier of connectors and interconnection systems and serves customers around the world in a wide range of markets, including communications, consumer/industrial, personal computer, power technology and automotive. Employing 47,000 people in 53 countries, AMP achieved record sales of $5.75 billion in 1997.

The OnQ Home Wiring System and Home Management System are sold and installed through the nationwide network of AMP dealers and distributors. For more information, call (800) 321-2343 or visit the AMP OnQ website at http://www.amponq.com.
