Panasonic KX-TG2740S Cordless Phone System
by Bob Hetherington

At $199 for the main unit and $99 each for extra handsets this is a no brainer for those needing the convenience of wireless phones with the flexibility of 2 incoming lines and a digital answering system. We're featuring this system in our Home Technology Demonstration Project and in fact it is currently our primary phone system.

If you have a home office, small business or just need 2 phone lines to exist then seriously consider getting into a system such as this. Why ... simple.

  • One central unit plugs into your phone lines and electrical outlet
  • The rest of the handsets (up to 8) only need electrical connections to their cradles for charging so they can be located anywhere without the need of telephone jacks.
  • One common directory of phone contacts is available from all handsets and new contacts can be added to any handset and then sent to all the others.
  • Digital answering system with 3 mailboxes
  • Intercom with all the goodies ... transfer, hold, conference etc.
  • Caller ID and Caller Log
  • Easy to learn and use

There's a lot more to the system than that but in my experience those are the most important and convenient features. The system is easy to set up and once you get the hang of it ... operation is a breeze. The sound quality is good both live and on messages. I've had no problems at all with the range of the handsets ... both indoors and out.

For the fashion conscious there are several colors (white, silver or violet) and designs to choose from for the handsets including this unit with a built in clock and alarm.
