CLARION CORPORATION OF AMERICA CERTIFIES
ANDREA ELECTRONICS' AUTOMOBILE MICROPHONE
Andrea AutoArray (TM) Microphone Endorsed by Clarion
for Use with Clarion AutoPC (TM)
Melville, NY and Gardena, CA, January 5, 1999 -- Andrea
Electronics Corporation (AMEX: AND) announced today that Clarion Advanced Technology
Corporation, a subsidiary of Clarion Corporation of America, has certified the Andrea
AutoArray (TM) for use with the Clarion AutoPC (TM), an in-dash information,
communication, navigation, and entertainment car audio system. Introduced in November, the
Andrea AutoArray incorporates the Company's patented Digital Super Directional Array
(DSDA(TM)) technology, which uses an array of microphones and unique software design to
focus on drivers' voices and actively cancel ambient noise. DSDA microphone arrays enable
the user to be at a distance from the microphone, thus providing hands-free use. The
technology and design of the Andrea AutoArray allows AutoPC users to achieve superior
levels of voice input clarity for optimal speech recognition performance. By eliminating
noises caused by wind, road & engine hum, air conditioning or passengers'
conversations, the Andrea AutoArray provides a critical speech clarity solution for
AutoPCs.
"The Clarion AutoPC revolutionizes the concept of
in-vehicle computing and driver interconnectivity. When we designed this next generation
mobile computing device, driver safety and efficiency were a top priority for
Clarion," said James Minarik, President of Clarion Corporation of America.
"Andrea's AutoArray enables superior voice recognition accuracy in noisy
environments, such as in a convertible automobile."
"Clarion's certification of the Andrea AutoArray further demonstrates Andrea's
ability to create state-of-the-art products for voice-enabled, PC-based
applications," said Douglas J. Andrea, Co-Chairman and Co-Chief Executive Officer at
Andrea Electronics Corporation. "We believe products incorporating our DSDA (TM)
technology, such as the Andrea AutoArray, should contribute to the Company's success in
providing the optimal front-end voice recognition solution for future applications."
Andrea AutoArray (TM) - Digital Super Directional Array (DSDA(TM)) Technology
DSDA microphone technology, developed by Lamar Signal Processing, Ltd., a wholly owned
subsidiary of Andrea Electronics, directs a cone-shaped acoustic beam at the speaker. The
software enhances the speaker's voice received through the acoustic beam and cancels other
sounds from outside the beam. The result is a high quality voice signal. The new Andrea
AutoArray is a far-field microphone solution designed specifically for use with car phones
and Auto PCs, including the Clarion AutoPC. The capabilities behind this powerful new
microphone technology is anticipated to enable a whole new driving experience, allowing
for easy, safe and efficient in-vehicle computing.
The Clarion AutoPC (TM)
The Clarion AutoPC is the first product that integrates car audio, computing functions,
navigation and wireless communications through hands-free voice activation into a 1-DIN
unit in the dash of an automobile. It recognizes simple voice commands, allowing consumers
to select music and retrieve contact information, among others tasks, without taking their
eyes off the road. The Clarion AutoPC, built on a revolutionary open architecture platform
and powered by the Microsoft Windows CE 2.0 operating system, demonstrates Clarion's
aggressive commitment to developing a new generation of mobile multimedia products that
converge car audio with personal computing.
Andrea Electronics Corporation designs, develops and manufactures audio technologies and

patented Active Noise Reduction (ANR) earphone, Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) near-field
microphone and patented Digital Super Directional Array (DSDA(TM)) and patent-pending
Directional Finding and Tracking Array (DFTA(TM)) far-field microphone technologies
continue to be incorporated into a wide range of audio products to eliminate background
noise and ensure the optimum performance of voice applications. Applications for the
