New SmartOne Modules
Offer Powerful Features,
Fast Installation and Easy Expansion for New and Old Homes
CEDIA EXPO 97, Atlanta, Sept. 5, 1997Smart Corporation, a leader in developing and manufacturing integrated home management products and technologies, is exhibiting a revolutionary family of modular home management and control products for new and existing homes at CEDIA EXPO 97: The Custom Home Electronic Design and Installation Show, beginning today in Atlanta.
Highlighted at the show are the SmartOneTM Manager Plus, the SmartOne Bridge, the SmartOne 30 Amp Load Controller, the SmartOne Security Module, a series of CEBus light switches and the Smart Corporations HomeToolTM software for installers. They employ CEBus® powerline technology to offer installers and homeowners important benefits in installation flexibility, sophisticated technology, ease-of-use and modular expansion capabilities.
Additional members of the SmartOne family of productsincluding the SmartOne Audio/Video controller and a series of SmartOne sensorswill be introduced later in the year and into the first quarter of 1998.
SmartOne products are designed to give homeowners greater levels of comfort, control and security by allowing them to easily control and interface with such products as audio/video components, security systems, lighting and HVAC equipment, and with such low voltage products as lawn sprinklers, motorized drapes, and garage door openers.
Many products for automatically controlling these aspects of a homes operation offer adequate control, but have not been easy to apply to existing homes, since they require extensive re-wiring and remodeling. Smart Corporation has solved this problem by designing products that employ household electrical wiring to send and receive messages and instructions to and from system components using robust and reliable CEBus technology. SmartOne components seamlessly integrate with each other to deliver the control required while offering easy programmability and operation.
SmartOnes sophisticated capabilities permit the installation of highly affordable home management systems in both new and existing construction. SmartOne systems can start by controlling basic functions and grow into the most comprehensive systems imaginable without requiring purchased equipment to be replaced, thus protecting owner investments.
SmartOne Manager Plus
The Model 740 SmartOne Manager Plus is a low-cost, efficient means of managing a wide range of home subsystems. Because it communicates via CEBus messages over a homes electrical wire, it can be used to control lighting, HVAC and A/V functions, 30-amp appliances and low-voltage home products.
An LCD display panel and keypad serve as an interface with users who can select from items on the main or subordinate menus, which include House macros, lighting scenes, climate control, lighting and the security system.
SmartOne Manager
The Model SO-730 SmartOne Manager is a programmable controller designed to manage multiple CEBus-compatible home products and systems in new and existing homes. It is also designed to store events, light scenes and establish house macros.
The Manager receives inputs from CEBus-compatible sensors, and features a built-in micro-computer with memory for storing events, a real-time clock for time/date-initiated operations, and an RS-232 SmartportTM for programming and status information. The Managers special strength is providing CEBus powerline messages to and from controllers and devices. As a system manager, it controls and stores events for other CEBus-compatible products and services.
The Manager can be programmed with house macros that combine commands for lighting, security, 30-amp products and HVAC systems. Time and date, CEBus message, sensors, or a switch can activate macros. More than one Manager may be combined to provide any desired degree of control. The Manager is designed for indoor use and housed in a surface-mount, 94VO-rated ABS enclosure measuring 4-1/2 x 6-1/4 x 6-1/8 inches.
SmartOne Bridge
The Model SO-370 SmartOne Bridge is a standalone or home network, programmable input/output controller designed to manage multiple CEBus and non-CEBus compatible home products. Designed to be installed in new and existing homes, it also enables sensors and switches to provide product control information.
The Bridge expands on the capabilities of system managers by providing eight binary and four analog inputs, and eight relay outputs for hardwired products. Like the Manager, the Bridge features a built-in computer with memory for storing events, a real-time clock for time/date-initiated operations, and an RS-232 Smartport for programming and status information.
The Bridges hardwired inputs and outputs provide an interface for low voltage non-smart products. It can receive signals from such diverse sources as sensors for indoor/outdoor temperatures, pressure, sound, motion, moisture, windows and doorbells, as well as for such conditions as carbon monoxide, radon and flooding.
Each of the Bridges relay outputs provides contacts for complete flexibility in operating controls for such home products as drapes, skylights, fireplaces, door locks and chimes, windows, garage doors, sprinklers, fountains, humidifiers and outdoor lights. The Bridge can store macros combining commands for security, 30-amp products and HVAC systems, which can be activated by a sensor, a time, a date or a switch.
An optional SmartOne RS-232 Thermostat, Model SO-150, provides digital single-stage heating and cooling system control, allowing HVAC operation to be combined with other modes or events. The Bridge is available as a flush- or surface-mount unit in a compact, flame-retardant ABS enclosure measuring 8-3/8 x 11 x 1-3/4 inches in a surface mount configuration, and slightly larger as a flush mount.
SmartOne 30 Amp Load Controller
The Model SO-300 SmartOne 30 Amp Load Controller is a programmable controller designed to control a single 240VAC appliance or home product. Thanks to its built-in real-time clock, it can be used as a standalone controller or can be controlled from a SmartOne System Manager. It is fully compatible with other SmartOne home management products and CEBus compliant.
The 30 Amp Load Controller provides standalone or CEBus-message control in new and existing homes for products drawing up to 30 amps of current in up to 240 Volt AC circuits. Using SmartOne HomeTool software, it can be programmed through an RS-232 Smartport or via CEBus powerline messages to turn a product off at night and on in the morning, or to set temperatures during vacations for maximum energy savings. Compatible home products include water heaters, electric baseboard heaters, other electric heaters of 30 amps or less, and pool and fountain pumps.
The 30 Amp Load Controller can receive input from an optional SmartOne Temperature Sensor, Model SO-160-5, to monitor or control temperature settings for a water heater, a baseboard heater, and the like. A built-in current sensor allows reporting power consumption to a utility or energy management system. The 30 Amp Load Controller is housed in a rugged, lockable surface-mount ABS enclosure carrying a NEMA 3R rating for indoor or outdoor use.
SmartOne Security Module
The Model SO-330 SmartOne Security Module is designed to interface with most standard security controllers in new and existing homes. Although fully CEBus compatible, it allows a non-CEBus security system to integrate with CEBus products by reporting security system alarms and states. It is fully compatible with other SmartOne home management products.
The Security Module provides six pairs of non-polarized input terminals for interfacing with a homeowners security system. Three pairs are dedicated for fire, emergency and burglary alerts. The other three pairs are general purpose for customizing to a users needs; for example, by creating special Away, Asleep, or At Home macros.
The Security Module translates security system states from a non-CEBus security system into CEBus messages for use by a SmartOne Controller or SmartOne Manager, which can then transmit house macros, events or modes in response to signals from the non-CEBus security system. When integrated with other CEBus products, its features can be expanded to include control of flashing lights, video cameras, and electric locks.
The Security Modules inputs respond to switch closures and openings, or to AC or DC voltage levels. It includes a SmartOne Coupling Power Supply to provide power to the unit and a communications path for CEBus signals between the 120 VAC line and the Interface. The Module is housed in a 4-1/2 x 6-1/4 x 2-1/8-inch surface-mount enclosure for indoor use near the security systems master control box. The rugged enclosure is molded from 94VO ABS.
Smart Corporation specializes in designing and manufacturing innovative home management products and technologies and is a leading developer of CEBus compatible products. Its products are designed to emphasize affordability, ease of use and installation, and easy integration with existing products.
Additional SmartOne products will be available later this year, and can be currently seen at the Georgia World Congress Center, Booth 2218, during CEDIA EXPO 97. Please visit their Website at www.smartcorporation.com for additional information.
