Protecting AND Maximizing the Performance of Your Precious Plasma!
Written by Garth Powell
Senior Sales Engineer and Senior Product Designer
 Furman Sound Inc.

AC noise is far greater in both amplitude and bandwidth than ever before.  When it couples into critical circuits it will distort low-level information as well as create data corruption and losses.

Today’s overworked, outdated power grid delivers poor quality AC power.  When connecting sensitive equipment such as a plasma monitor to regular power outlets, AC noise masks critical signal information which cripples performance.  This is why it’s more important than ever to purify or clean the AC powering your sensitive audio/video equipment

In the past, AC filtering was considered a relatively small concern.  As long as pops, crackle, or radio interference wasn’t picked up by your components power supply, filtering was sufficient. This is no longer true.  AC noise is far greater in both amplitude and bandwidth than ever before.  When it couples into critical circuits it will distort low-level information as well as create data corruption and losses.  This is due in part to the widening popularity of switching power supplies and the harmonics they back-feed into our AC power mains.  Today’s power filters must have far greater efficiency, and cover a much broader bandwidth than ever before.

For more than 30 years, Furman Sound has pioneered the development of AC power products for the most demanding audio, video, and broadcast professionals.  Having recently entered into the CE/Home Theater space, Furman recently released it’s eagerly awaited AC-215, a new compact power conditioner built around the company’s state-of-the-art SMP+ technology, features a sleek, unobtrusive, low profile that is ideal for mounting onto the back of a plasma or LCD screen offering the purest power and most comprehensive surge and spike protection available.

AC-215 Unparalleled Power Protection

At the heart of the AC-215 is Furman’s Series Multi-Stage Protection Plus (SMP+) circuit, the company’s latest technological advancement that consists of several unique features. One is Linear Filtering Technology (LiFT), which delivers linearly filtered AC power that dramatically reduces noise that masks and distorts critical signal information, crippling performance. LiFT suppresses noise consistently across the entire dynamic range, a vast improvement over typical AC filters that utilize non-linear circuits, which reduce noise unevenly and can even add noise due to excessive resonant peaking. With Furman’s proprietary Linear Filtering Technology (LiFT), AC noise is suppressed evenly, assuring maximum performance from your system.

Additionally, today’s power grid commonly experiences numerous electrical surges and spikes on a daily basis. At best, these irregularities can degrade your equipment’s performance, and, at worst, can severely damage your entire system. Furman’s SMP+ circuit not only clamps and dissipates damaging transient voltages at the highest degree available, it does so without sacrificing itself or any of its components.

Conventional AC conditioners employing older technologies leak voltage to circuit ground which can aid in damaging sensitive digital circuits such as computer processors. Furman’s new technology, however, never directs voltage to the circuit ground further ensuring the safety of your equipment.

Another feature that is unique to Furman’s SMP+ circuit is automatic Extreme-Voltage Shutdown (EVS). Extreme voltages are statistically the most common, damaging AC event. The extreme-voltage shutdown circuit automatically turns off the AC-215 when it is fed 137 volts or higher, protecting itself and connected equipment from the extreme voltage. Only Furman offers this degree of protection!

Furman’s AC-215 is compact, easy-to-install and includes two rear-panel outlets and mounting hardware.  Ideally suited for attaching to the rear of a plasma or LCD screen, it fits into any application where discretely-located, remote power purification and protection are needed.  A three-year limited warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship is included.  For more information about Furman Sound, the AC-215, or power conditioning and surge protection visit www.furmansound.com
