Smart Corporation Continues Growth With Expansion Of Engineering Team
Four New Positions Added To Already Strong Team

Las Cruces, NM, July xx, 1997-Smart Corporation, a leader in developing and manufacturing home management products and technologies, has named Patrick Rich as Director of Engineering, David R. Modisette as Systems/Software Engineering Manager, Arlee Swensen as Hardware/Firmware Engineering Manager, and Nancy Lovelace as Human Factors Engineer.

Patrick Rich has most recently served as Vice President of Engineering for Portable Graphics, Inc., where he managed product development and instituted formal engineering methods for the start-up technology company.

An authority in engineering management for over twenty years, Rich brings a broad range of capabilities in software, engineering, marketing, and domestic and international project management to Smart Corporation. [MORE]

David R. Modisette, at one time a member of the technical staff with AT&T Bell Labs, comes to Smart Corporation from Autoflex, Inc., where he served as Manager of Engineering.

His experience envelops most facets of the research and development of technical products in electronics, computers, and software for various industries including automobile and telecommunication. Modisette is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers and the Association for Computing Machinery.

Arlee Swensen also brings a wealth of experience that is essential to Smart Corporation's development of home management technologies. He has most recently served as the Director of Engineering for KWM Electronics, where his duties included overseeing the development of projects for broad application areas including home lighting controls, medical monitoring, keyboard encoding, and safety monitoring devices.

Accomplished in the design and manufacture of microcontroller based products, Swensen is the principal inventor on two United States Patents relating to infrared communication in a medical environment, and is the principal design engineer on one of the first large scale commercial applications of the Consumer Electronics Bus (CEBus).

Nancy Lovelace joins Smart Corporation having served most recently as the Human Factors Engineer, Experimental Psychologist at Intermetrics, Inc. for five years. There, she worked with teams evolving design philosophy for avionics operator/system interface and software, and designed the ergonomic layout of cockpit instrument panels and center consoles as well as cabin consoles.

Lovelace has authored and contributed to several publications and technical reports, and has recently received an MA in Experimental Psychology/Human Factors Engineering from New Mexico State University.
