ITI TECHNOLOGIES AND WESTAR SECURITY SERVICES ENTER INTO SUPPLY AGREEMENT

NORTH ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA -- June 23, 1997

ITI Technologies, Inc. (ITII, NASDAQ) today announced that one of its subsidiaries, Interactive Technologies, Inc. (ITI), has entered into a supply agreement with Westar Security Services, a subsidiary of Western Resources, Inc. (WR, NYSE), the Topeka, Kansas based utility. Under the agreement, ITI has agreed to develop a custom wireless security system to Westar’s specifications. Upon completion of the system, Westar has agreed to purchase from ITI all its requirements for wireless security equipment for two years.

ITI also announced that ITI has entered into a strategic alliance with Westar in conjunction with the ITI HomeLink® Program. ITI has developed the HomeLink Security Interface, which works with the HomeLink Universal Transmitter manufactured by Prince, a Johnson Controls Company (JCI, NYSE). The HomeLink Universal Transmitter is a trainable radio transmitter built into automobiles that is capable of learning the signals of up to three remote control units to control garage doors and other HomeLink compatible devices. Under the arrangement with ITI, Westar can offer people who own HomeLink equipped vehicles the ability to control the home’s security system and lights from inside their vehicles. Prince’s HomeLink Universal Transmitter is in approximately one million existing vehicles. This year an estimated additional 1.5 million HomeLink compatible vehicles will be sold with several million HomeLink compatible vehicles sold annually by the year 2000.

Thomas L. Auth, Chairman, President and CEO of ITI Technologies, stated that "ITI is delighted with the agreement to be Westar’s exclusive wireless supplier. Westar has quickly become one of the top security services providers in the country. The caliber of organizations like Westar helps strengthen the entire industry."

Steve Millstein, President of Westar added, "ITI offers Westar products and technology that enable us to provide our customers the security solutions they desire. Our customers’ needs for security are expanding beyond the home. We are excited by the potential of the HomeLink product to enhance our ability to anticipate our customers’ evolving security needs."

ITI is the leading designer and manufacturer of wireless electronic security systems in the United States. ITI had revenues of $93.3 million in 1996.
