WaterCop Leak Detection System
by Andrew Bryan - DynaQuip Controls

The WaterCop system can be connected to a home's security system or home automation controller for remote signaling and operation. When a problem is detected the WaterCop will shut the water off and trigger the alarm system alerting the alarm monitoring company that a security problem exists inside the home.

Water damage resulting from appliance and plumbing failures cost homeowners and insurance companies hundreds of millions of dollars each year. Today it seems almost every homeowner has a tragic story about water damage flooding his or her home ranging from a small leak around a toilet to a broken washing machine line. DynaQuip Controls (St. Clair, MO) has developed a new and unique product called the WaterCopä to monitor the home plumbing system 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, providing homeowners the best possible protection against catastrophic water damage.

The WaterCop system is a combination of wireless water sensors called "Waterhounds" communicating to an electrically actuated ball valve installed on a residential main water line. The Waterhounds are battery operated water sensors that should be strategically located in those areas of the home most likely to see a plumbing related failure. The most common areas are washing machines, water heaters, ice makers, and dishwashers. When water begins to puddle in one of these areas it will trip the WaterHound sensor and send a radio frequency signal back to the WaterCop telling the system to shut the water off to the home preventing any continuous flow.

The WaterCop system can be connected to a home's security system or home automation controller for remote signaling and operation. When a problem is detected the WaterCop will shut the water off and trigger the alarm system alerting the alarm monitoring company that a security problem exists inside the home. Alarm systems can also be programmed with the WaterCop to automatically shut your water off every time you leave your home and turned back on upon return, minimizing any chance of water damage while you are away. This is an excellent option for those people with vacation homes, second homes, and rental properties.

The system is easily installed by any certified plumber and can be retro fitted to any home. Since the Waterhounds are wireless they can be placed in conspicuous locations where the small sensor will not detract from a rooms décor. The WaterCop unit should be installed on the main water line just past the existing water valve and is full port in design allowing full flow into the home without any pressure drop.

Starter systems cost $359.99 and include the WaterCop unit and three WaterHound transmitters. Additional transmitters can be added to any system for more complete coverage and cost $39.99 each.

According to Rodney Bryan Jr., Vice President and Co-Developer of WaterCop, "water damage is a leading source of home insurance claims. Many insurance companies are beginning to recommend automatic valves to their homeowner customers and some may even offer discounts to people who install products like the WaterCop in their homes."

With the proliferation of high tech homes and home automation the WaterCop system is an effective and economical way to protect any home against catastrophic water damage.
