NETGEAR Selects ShareWave Technology For
Wireless Home Networking Products
New products extend broadband connections throughout the home

RETAILVISION, SAN FRANCISCO, CA (April 14, 1999)—ShareWave, Inc., an ingredient supplier of multimedia-capable wireless home networking technology, today announced that NETGEAR has adopted ShareWaveTM Digital Wireless technology for a new line of wireless home networking products. NETGEAR, a wholly owned subsidiary of Nortel Networks (NYSE:NT), will incorporate ShareWave Digital Wireless into a family of wireless networking modules. These solutions will be targeted to consumers and will be available later this fall through NETGEAR’s retail partners.

"We are excited to provide our customers with a wireless home networking solution," said Patrick Lo, Vice President and General Manager of NETGEAR. "Wireless technology allows us to expand our home networking options worldwide and allow everyone to enjoy high-speed home networking that is, in the tradition of NETGEAR products, easy to install and use, affordable, and guaranteed."

Using ShareWave’s technology, NETGEAR will add a family of wireless networking products that interfaces to NETGEAR’s existing family of products, including those based on Ethernet and home phoneline wiring. NETGEAR will offer ShareWave-based networking solutions that extend high-speed Internet connections, such as cable, ISDN and xDSL modems, to other networked devices throughout the home. As a result, consumers can access computer content and peripherals, as well as broadband connections and services, from any location in the home.

"ShareWave provides the only multimedia-capable wireless home networking solution that supports all media types, from data to video," said Jim Schraith, ShareWave President and CEO. "Consumers will soon have a high-speed, low cost, wireless option for distributing broadband Internet connections everywhere in the home; something that isn’t achievable with today’s low speed solutions."
