RUNCO INT'L INTRODUCES THE INDUSTRY’S FIRST 200 DISC DVD CHANGER WITH CONTROLLER. THE SYSTEM WILL BE THX CERTIFIED.

January 2, 1998-Runco International introduces the world’s first 200 disc DVD changer, the SAR-200, packaged with the SAR-Controller, a system management tool. The SAR-200 will catalog and play audio CDs as well as DVD movies. The SAR-200 DVD changer is a handsomely designed high-tech looking piece of video equipment aesthetically similar in appearance to the company’s SC-4200 Quadrafilm combination line doubler/line quadrupler. The SAR-200/SAR-Controller is pending THX certification, and will be the first THX certified DVD changer to reach the consumer electronics industry.

The SAR-200 has a built-in SCSI drive enabling the user to daisy chain up to six of the changers together as desired giving it a 1200 disc capacity and unprecedented versatility. With the ability to play DVDs and audio CDs the SAR-200 covers all of the digital home entertainment software needs of the consumer. This unprecedented versatility comes packaged with the Runco SAR-Controller, a software control system with an infrared mouse and wireless keyboard for the ultimate in convenience.

The SAR-200 must be used in conjunction with the SAR-Controller, because the SAR-Controller provides the graphic interface, which reads the information off the disc and provides the visual prompts necessary for operation and navigation of the system. Once the SAR-200 or multiple SAR-200s are loaded the user can manipulate his/her digital audio and video library from the comfort of the couch. The supplied air mouse controls the SAR-200 with two buttons, making the SAR-Controller system extremely intuitive and easy to use.

The SAR-200/SAR-Controller has been designed with open architecture, making it easily upgradeable with board changes to accommodate future technologies.

With a combination of superb video performance and excellent sound quality, the SAR-200 sets a new standard for audio and video performance. The SAR-200 is not only the first 200 disc DVD changer to hit the market, but it is the world’s first source component integrating all the new digital software in a single unit. It can be used for watching movies, listening to music and as a way to conveniently store and catalog your DVDs and CDs. The SAR-200/SAR-Controller offers the ultimate in convenience features for DVD or CD playback. The SAR-Controller instantly recognizes the title once it is loaded into the SAR-200, and displays the cover artwork of the DVD or CD. When you bring up a particular title you can start playback in a small window to the left of the screen, and get some information about the movie or CD on the right side of the screen before going full screen with the movie. Access time for changing chapters on a DVD is almost instantaneous unlike other DVD player currently on the market.

Founded in 1987 and currently headquartered in Hayward, California, Runco International is a market leader in state-of-the-art front- and rear-projection televisions, flat-panel plasma TVs, video processors, and source components for the consumer market. Runco’s innovations have won numerous awards and citations from the world press. Runco was the first video company to introduce a multiple-aspect-ratio controller, the ARC-IV, to the home theater market and also the first to introduce and market a line doubler with a multi-frequency projector, in 1990.

The SAR-200/SAR-Controller is available now for a suggested retail price of $14,995.

Runco International Introduces Flat Panel Plasma Television

Hayward, California.....(September, 1998).....Runco International, world renowned for their industry-reference projection television systems, introduces a new, 42-inch diagonal flat-panel, high-resolution plasma display ideal for home theater.

The new PlasmaWall PL-42, which joins the company’s extensively praised WideVision line of television products, is a next-generation plasma display panel offering several key design advantages over previous plasma TVs. The unit features 8-bit video processing instead of the substantially less capable 4- and 6-bit processing systems utilized by virtually all competing plasma TVs. Eight-bit processing delivers significantly superior picture resolution by way of more accurate, well saturated colors and improved black levels and contrast ratios, as compared with earlier plasma designs. The result is rich, three-dimensional video reproduction, vibrant and realistic with excellent detail and resolution.

Runco’s new PlasmaWall PL-42 is also one of the slimmest 42-inch plasma television systems on the market. Measuring only 3-1/2 inches deep and 25-1/2”H x 41-1/2”W, the widescreen 16:9 aspect-ratio PL-42 provides full, 160 degree off-axis angle viewing. The PL-42 is also fully multi-standard, reproducing the NTSC, PAL and SECAM formats with their full resolution. Weighing only 86 pounds, Runco’s slim, lightweight design allows for multiple mounting options including wall, ceiling, stand, and custom-installation applications. An added convenience feature, the PL-42 is supplied with a backlit universal remote controller capable of commanding the audio-video functions an entire home theater.

Sam Runco, CEO of Runco International, envisions the PlasmaWall PL-42 as a promising new product for his company. “The PL-42’s 3-1/2 inch depth brings us many new possibilities for multi-room high quality, on-wall video for seamless video integration throughout the house. Custom installers who create a high-end, dedicated home theater can now also provide multiple PlasmaWalls for bedrooms, den, media-room, and more. Finally, true, multiroom home theater.”
