PLEASANTON, CA April 7, 1999 Ositis Software Inc., announced today that its home web network management software, WinProxyÒ , has been selected by WebGear, Inc., to be included in its entire line of consumer and commercial Aviator wireless networking solutions. Ositis Softwares WinProxy is an affordable, easy and secure way to connect multiple home PCs to the Internet through a single user account. WebGears Aviator Wireless Network is a new innovative wireless technology that utilizes radio technology instead of wires to provide a quick and easy way to set up a Local Area Network (LAN).
While file sharing and resource sharing are key benefits of setting up a home or small office network, Internet access continues to be seen as the "killer app" and the number one reason that users are networking their home PCs. In a recent report released by International Data Corporation, the number of multi-PC households is expected to reach 22.9 million by the end of 2002, up from 15 million currently.
"Installing a home network should be easy and affordable," said Jerry Burns, President of WebGear, Inc. "We believe WinProxy is the perfect complement to our wireless product family because it delivers simultaneous Internet access at a real cost savings. People can spend more time conducting business, keeping up with current news and chatting on-line, all at the same time, from anywhere in their home or office, without having to worry about the added cost of multiple phone lines or Internet accounts."
WinProxy provides Internet services to network users by acting as an intelligent Internet gateway. It accepts requests for Internet access from the networks PCs and routes the connection through WinProxy to a single TCP/IP connection on behalf of individual users. WinProxy not only allows multiple users to share access to a single Internet connection, but also allows them to be on-line simultaneously. Internet access through WinProxy is transparent to family members; they simply open their browser or e-mail application and are automatically connected to the Internet.
WinProxy also provides comprehensive firewall security and access management capabilities and is suited to Internet access through dial-up modems or via new broadband options such as cable modems and Digital Subscriber Line modems.
WebGears Aviator product line utilizes a proven network communications technology that is reliable, easy to install and gives instant access to your files, printers, and dial-up Internet connection on all your networked PCs.
Ositis WinProxy software will be integrated with all WebGear Aviator products. WebGear products targeted to the consumer market, including the Aviator, AviatorUSB and the soon to be released, Aviator2.4 will include a customized version of WinProxy tailored for the home market which supports two concurrent Internet connections. Best Buy Stores to Distribute Sell Leading Home Network Web Manager
PLEASANTON, CA April 5, 1999 Ositis Software announced today that it will distribute its Home Network Web management software, WinProxy, in Best Buy stores beginning this month. WinProxy, an affordable, easy and secure way to connect multiple home PCs to the Internet through a single user account, will be sold nationwide in all 311 Best Buy stores.
PCs have already penetrated 50% of U.S. households, according to a recent market research report by Dataquest, and increasing numbers now have more than one PC to serve the growing needs of families and home businesses. WinProxy allows two or more networked PCs in the home to simultaneously share Internet access through one account, eliminating the need for multiple phone lines or Internet accounts. WinProxy also provides comprehensive firewall security and access management capabilities and is suited to Internet access through dial-up modems or via new broadband options such as cable modems and Digital Subscriber Line modems.
Consumers and home office workers using WinProxy realize tremendous cost savings by sharing one connection. Typically, an additional phone line and Internet access account would cost an additional $360 or more a year. WinProxy eliminates this need for additional phone lines and multiple Internet accounts while providing the added benefits of security and control over users Internet access privileges.
In January, the Yankee Group reported that 30.5% of PC households in the United States are interested in a way to connect devices such as PCs, printers and televisions inside their homes so these devices can be centrally controlled and shared. The Yankee Group noted that a key factor driving the move towards home networks is the increasing availability of high-speed data access. WinProxy provides an easy to use means of sharing the high-speed Internet access of cable modems and ADSL modems among multiple PCs.
"Our customers tell us that sharing Internet access is the number one reason for installing a home or office network," said Vilis Ositis, CEO of Ositis Software. "WinProxy is the easiest, most comprehensive solution that meets the needs of todays home user."
WinProxy is also available at all CompUSA stores nationwide and at Micro Center stores. By adding Best Buy stores to its distribution, Ositis Software will now be available in over 500 retail outlets nationwide.
