AMX and PHAST Announce HomeRF Plans
AMX Advances Internet Appliance Interoperability
DALLAS -- Following on the heels of its recent Internet Appliance announcement, AMX Corporation (Nasdaq: AMXX) continues to take dramatic steps as a key player in the residential network and information appliance marketplace. At the HomeRF Working Group meeting in Orlando, Florida, the corporation pledged support of the Shared Wireless Access Protocol (SWAP) specification for its new and existing wireless product lines.
Joining the major industry leaders such as Compaq Computer Corporation, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, and Motorola, AMX and its PHAST home automation subsidiary will provide interoperable devices that conform to the emerging SWAP specification created by the HomeRF Working Group. Through SWAP, consumer electronics and small appliances in and around the home will contain technology that will enable them to "talk" to each other without being tethered to the existing wiring in the home while distributing the power of the PC throughout the home.
AMX Chairman of the Board John McHale agrees, "AMX has gained its experience by building its business in the eye of the technology tornado, constructing sense and opportunity from the winds of change. By acting now to establish interoperability standards like HomeRF, we can extend our expertise in a calmer atmosphere, able to steer the direction and cost of technology to benefit the common man. Sailing into the storm is more challenging, but riding with the wind is infinitely more rewarding."
AMX Corporation, in concert with its wholly owned subsidiary PHAST Corporation, is the worldwide leader in integration network systems, innovations that bring people in touch with their technology. Specialists in the science and art of control, AMX Internet-active systems harness the power of electronic media, mechanics, and information so that technology behaves as a natural extension of our lives. Located in Dallas, Texas with offices around the world, AMX stock is traded on the NASDAQ stock exchange under the symbol AMXX.
