PHAST Reaches 100,000 Installed Ports

SALT LAKE CITY - In announcing the 100,000th PHASTLink device delivery this month, PHAST, a subsidiary of AMX Corporation (NASDAQ AMXX), has proven that their open platform PHASTLink protocol is viable in the residential control network field. PHAST began delivery of home automation devices in February 1997.

PHASTLink is the protocol used in the Landmark line of home automation hardware, which PHAST has licensed to other manufactures as well. The PHASTLink network is based in part on Echelon technology, which has been most successful in commercial and industrial applications. Steve Alexander president of PHAST in his announcement of the milestone shipment said, "Despite the odds of there ever being a single protocol that everyone can live with, PHASTLink has proven to be both easily implemented by our PHASTLink partners and cost effective for home control networks. It was exactly these two goals which we set out to reach, and now we have 100,000 reasons to say we met them."

Within the home automation field, with the exception of the widely accepted X-10 power line carrier devices, few, if any, protocol driven devices have ever met with the rapid success of PHASTLink. AMX CFO David Chisum commented, "When we invested in PHAST in 1995 it was with an eye toward making a mark on the residential marketplace. Clearly the success of PHASTLink is an indication that we are on the right track."

PHAST Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of AMX Corporation, designs and manufactures advanced systems for home entertainment, information access, and whole-house automation. PHAST systems provide high-quality audio/video distribution, and integrated control of media, lighting, temperature, and communications. The company is headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah, and distributes its systems worldwide. AMX stock is traded on the Nasdaq stock exchange under the symbol AMXX. For more information, contact PHAST Corporation, 79 West 4500 South, Building 14, Salt Lake City, Utah 84107, or visit PHAST on the Internet at www.phast.com.
