HomAtion 2000 Application Note
ProAtion 2000 energy management controller at
The Maritime Institute of Technology

HomAtion Systems has installed its ProAtion 2000 energy management controller for lighting and HVAC equipment at The Maritime Institute of Technology in Linthicum, Maryland.

The ProAtion 2000 controller enables front desk personnel to control the heating and air conditioning units in each of the 140 rooms individually simply by clicking on a room icon on the controller screen using a familiar computer mouse. Now, the HVAC units can be turned off when a guest checks out and back on again at check in. Also, guest calls about problems with an HVAC unit no longer require an electrician to make a trip to the room simply to reset the unit. The unit now can be reset at the front desk. The familiar graphic user interface makes the controller simple to learn and to use.

The ProAtion 2000 controller uses wireless communications which eliminates the installation of substantial wiring. Small electrical controls were installed in each room HVAC unit that are controlled from the ProAtion 2000 controller at the front desk. The controller display and mouse are all that is visible at the front desk; the computer and communication interface are tucked away out of sight.

The ProAtion 2000 controller contains modern graphic, real-time software for Windows 95 and NT for ease of use, rapid response and improved reliability. The software was developed by HomAtion Systems and integrated into the turnkey controller. The ProAtion 2000 controller is intended for the control of electrical devices in commercial facilities and large homes.

In addition to energy management and HVAC units controlled by front desk clerks, the ProAtion 2000 system can do other tasks as well. For example, electric door locks can be controlled to grant access to building facilities and the status of door closures and motion detectors monitors. All activities are logged into a computer data base for analysis and review. ProAtion 2000 can control most electrical devices without special wiring and can make control decisions based on your selections and on environmental measurements. And it’s all low cost.
