The downturn in new construction has caused most custom installation specialists to seek out other types of projects. Integrators are finding new opportunities in a variety of jobs that they wouldn’t have considered just a few year ago.
It is critical to partner with the best suppliers. Vendors who cater to the custom channel insure full realized profit margin. Nearly every company has had clients find a cheaper price on a video display on the internet after receiving their bid. But in the speaker category, dealers have choices. There are some speaker manufacturers who do not allow sales on the internet. Some vendors actively police for and terminate offenders, and protect their lines from uncontrolled distribution. These vendors do not supply national chains or national distributors in order to create value and loyalty with chosen integrator/hybrid retail installation companies.
Also, the right product mix addresses new installation opportunities. Just-in-time delivery from an in-stock position is essential. An “easy-to-do-business-with” vendor won’t waste your time or money. Both of which are crucial to surviving in a down economy. Confusing programs and pricing structures that are oriented to cash-and-carry sales do not work in the custom channel.
Companies such as Monitor Audio employ these dealer-friendly models with concentrated efforts based solely on the growth of Monitor Audio’s dealer base.
Shared dividing walls, ceilings and floors in MDUs (Multiple Dwelling Units) usually prevent the use of in-wall and in-ceiling speakers. Reducing sound transference to adjacent rooms is a top priority. In this application, stylish, high-performance speakers are a welcome solution to all parties. They must be wall-mountable as well. There is a wide range of such speakers to choose from with stylish options for every décor. While most companies focus on a portion of the business, companies with a broader range of options offer the greatest value for the dealer integrator.

Monitor Audio’s Radius HD Range
On-wall plasma-orienting speakers should compliment, but not compete with the video display. One stylish solution is the Monitor Audio R1 HD. It’s an all-in-one LCR (Left-Center-Right) speaker.

Small satellite/subwoofer speaker systems integrate easily into a living space without intruding. A Monitor Audio Radius 45HD or Radius90HD system with the R360HD powered subwoofer is stylish and small.

Other finish options besides black are sometimes necessary, due to the décor of a living space.

These establishments often challenge the installer due to large coverage areas from difficult angles. These jobs are limited to in-ceiling or small on-wall speakers. There can be a limit to how many speakers are allowed. One solution is the Monitor Audio “Series” LCR models. Due to the design of the “Inverted Dual Concentric” tweeter/midrange model, the widest possible coverage is achieved. Also, the IDC’s angling capability allows for the sound to be directed into a specific listening area. Further, these models are weather-resistant, so they may even be used in outdoor or humid settings. For example, in the Southwest, there are many establishments using misting systems on patio settings to keep their customers cool. Residential outdoor kitchens and bar areas can also benefit from these models.
