Can you tell us a bit about your company, your products and where you fit into the Smart Home industry?

Founded in 2010 and headquartered in San Jose, Calif., Qolsys (http://Qolsys.com) is reinventing the smarthome, security and home control market.  Qolsys is dedicated to improving the quality of life through innovation and technology by introducing the next generation life safety, security and home control platform.

The IQ Panel, the first true “All-In-One” security platform, leverages an Android operating system and boasts several industry firsts.  Other features include a 7” Touchscreen with a built-in panel camera, 6 built-in wireless radios with no external antennas, Z-Wave and Zigbee for home control and smart home devices, multiple languages in one SKU, two-way voice, siren, an SD Card slot, 24-hour lithium-ion battery, and interactive services powered by Alarm.com.

The IQ Panel’s groundbreaking Dual-Path Connectivity enables simultaneous communication over cellular and broadband WiFi channels. The IQ Panel brings a level of system integration and an intuitive user experience that sets a new standard for the industry.  Qolsys continues to demonstrate its dedication to residential security and home control by providing the most reliable and innovative platform, resulting in increased conversion, end-user satisfaction, fewer dealer truck rolls, improved customer support and decreased total cost of ownership.

The IQ Panel looks like an elegant tablet on the wall, without sacrificing core functionality required by the security industry as it creatively houses a standard 24-hour battery, 85-decibel siren, two-way voice and so much more.  By designing a security system and a cell phone from the ground up, we have optimized range for all built-in radios.  Monitored residential security is NOT compromised by being cool and sexy.  It is actually enhanced by delivering to the smarthome market as well.

Which technologies do your products use to communicate with each other and how does it work?

The IQ Panel is a unique “all in one” platform, and includes 6 built in wireless radios with no external antennas.  In addition to Wi-Fi and Cellular, the panel boasts a Z-Wave radio, Zigbee chip; Security R/F (319.5) and Bluetooth.

Do your products communicate with products from other manufacturers using a standard protocol? (which one)

The IQ Panel tightly integrates with Alarm.com’s market-leading connected home services platform, supporting interactive security, video monitoring, energy management and home automation.  Users can easily set up rules that automate aspects of the smart home, such as turning on lights, thermostat and locking doors when the panel is disarmed or the user crosses a geo-fence.  Other smart home features include receiving text messages when doors are unlocked and video files when the doorbell is rung.  In addition, hundreds of third party security and home control devices, such as Yale and Kwikset door locks, Radio Thermostat and Trane Thermostats and many more will pair to the IQ Panel to support a rich ecosystem for the connected home.

What types of devices do you manufacture or provide?

  • Residential Security Control Panel (this seems to be the best description of what we do)

Can your products be installed by the homeowner or are special skills and tools required?

The intuitive 7” Android touchscreen makes installation easy for professionals and do-it-yourselfers.  The Auto Learn app takes users through a menu-driven experience reducing install time and improving customer satisfaction.  The system is easily configured to a user’s personal preferences without special training or additional help.

One of our biggest growing segments is the DIY market.  Every sensor and device pairs up wirelessly to our IQ Panel leading to ease of install and the ability to place the IQ Panel literally anywhere in the home.  Resident help videos on the IQ Panel demonstrate installation techniques and other troubleshooting items like replacing low batteries and adding additional user codes. Other end users prefer professional installation, with install times being dramatically reduced with all wireless sensors.

In a short paragraph or 2 please describe how your products fit into a Smart Home scenario and how they are set up to work together to perform automated tasks.

The IQ Panel supports energy, automation, lighting and security all while providing residential security.  Countless hours of thought and design went into the look and feel of the IQ Panel to resemble a tablet while supporting traditional security features.

Today’s consumer expects their technology to look and interact a certain way.  We designed the IQ Panel to be attractive on the wall, deliver an intuitive user experience with simple navigation, pleasing graphics and a consistent experience with the mobile app.  The demands of the professional installer and end user guided every design aspect of our product.

The IQ Panel security and smarthome solution includes support for more than 200 (and growing) life safety, security and home control devices.  Its robust feature set also allows remote activation and troubleshooting of nearly every setting and feature, and its dual path connectivity ensures rapid signaling and data simultaneously across Wi-Fi and cellular networks.  We also offer our own proprietary line of devices including thermostats, outlets, lights, locks, security sensors, life safety sensors, and more.
