We interviewed several companies about CEDIA to find out what the show means for them and how they take advantage of the opportunities it provides. Here is what Russound, OSD Audio and Muxlab had to say.

CEDIA 2014 - Some Perspectives - Part 1

Prepared by | HomeToys.com

Russound

What are the primary features of CEDIA that you focus on (i.e. Show floor, training, seminars etc.)?

Training is always a critical component of our presence at CEDIA. This year we’re going in with one of our most prominent displays to date, but even in years where we took a more subdued approach, we never cut back on training.

This year, training will be more important than ever as we prepare our biggest product rollout in years. The display will feature samples from each of the new product lines, including speakers, amps and accessories.

What makes CEDIA an important show for your company?

CEDIA is all about the custom market, and that is where we live. Russound’s customers are custom specialists and the distributors who cater to them. We are very clear about our commitment to the market and to this show.

Who are you trying to attract at CEDIA and how do you go about it?

Dealers and integrators are our primary targets at the show, at least when it comes to new relationships. CEDIA is equal parts outreach to new customers and catching up with old friends.

Do you attend other tradeshows and if so where does CEDIA rank in order of importance for you?

We attend other shows, but CEDIA is our most important event of the year. It’s the one place where the CI industry gathers en masse to see the latest technologies, discuss trends and train our dealers. We may exhibit at other shows as well, but CEDIA will always be the priority.

What does CEDIA do right and how could they improve?

CEDIA is an excellent resource for professional installation.  There is no other show that educates its members better than CEDIA.

One opportunity to improve would be to develop a closer relationship with Apple, even if it was to invite them to create a temporary Apple store on-site.  Russound was the first company in the multizone space to embrace AirPlay.  Apple is the most influential consumer electronics company in our industry.   For over a decade, Apple has built products people want to own.  I suspect if Apple had a presence, even if it was to sell products at the show, Google wouldn’t be far behind.

What will you be introducing at CEDIA this year?

This will be our biggest rollout in years. We have all an all new update to our Acclaim speaker line, new amps, volume controls and more. It’s been an amazing feat to get everything ready in time.

OSD Audio

What are the primary features of CEDIA that you focus on (i.e. Show floor, training, seminars etc.)?

We see CEDIA as the best opportunity to engage one-on-one with CEDIA members, both to talk up our new products discuss what concepts and trends resonate the most with the dealers on the front line.

What makes CEDIA an important show for your company?

CEDIA is the only show that caters to the specific needs of custom specialists at every level, but especially dealers and distributors who are, of course, our primary target customers.

Who are you trying to attract at CEDIA and how do you go about it?

Residential AV contractors and installers are our primary interest at CEDIA. We need them to understand just what benefits we bring to their business, the list of which is long and extensive. To do this, we engage them before we arrive, with pre-CEDIA advertisements and press releases to build interest in new products being launched at the show. On site, we invested in a product display that is highly appealing and, more important, functional, with a booth located in a high traffic area of the show floor.

Do you attend other tradeshows and if so where does CEDIA rank in order of importance for you?

While we attend other shows, CEDIA is without a doubt the most important show for us at this time.

What does CEDIA do right and how could they improve?

CEDIA has done an excellent job of converting a lethargic AV Specialty Retail-centric industry into a Custom Home Installation industry.

More and more we hear from our traditional Residential Contractors that they are interested in diversifying their businesses to include some low voltage Commercial installations. Some form of joint activity and resource sharing between CEDIA and InfoComm would benefit those members.

What will you be introducing at CEDIA this year?

OSD will be introducing new architectural speakers and a digital music streaming system.  OSD Black Series architectural speakers feature high performance sound, advanced driver sets and a magnetic thin grille finish.  There will be three sizes of in-ceiling and in-wall speakers and all round speakers may be finished with an optional square  grille.  Also, we will introduce a digital music streaming player that plays music from a local, network or internet sources.

About OSD Audio

Based in Southern California, OSD Audio was founded in 2003 by a group of audiophiles who understood that good audio products didn’t necessarily have to cost an arm and a leg. The company’s initial line of outdoor rock speakers immediately gained attention from consumers who were astounded by the sound quality and reasonable price. OSD Audio eventually expanded the line to include in-wall and ceiling speakers, amplifiers, speaker selectors and more.
