Once the unit was mounted and connected all we had to do was turn it on (have a DVD ready for this step) and WOW ... middle of the day ... bright sunny room ... amazingly bright and clear picture ... right out of the box. This is how new technology should work!

The centerpiece of our Home Technology Demonstration Project theater room is of course the Plasma Screen ... after all that's about the only thing you see when you walk into the room ... and that's what everything else in the system is focused on.

Why did we decide to use a plasma rather than a projector or large screen TV? There are a few reasons but the main one is space. Our room is fairly small so the TV is out of the question ... just too thick to fit in. We needed something to just hang on the wall. We also have quite a bit of ambient light so we want the picture to be as bright as possible. Besides ... plasma screens are the latest technology and they are just ... well ... awesome.

The CinemaWall™ CW-42 plasma display combines quality and affordability into one package. It has all of the features that one has come to expect from a Runco product, including high-quality video processing, aspect ratio control and ease of use. The advanced Runco processing inside the CW-42 allows the most accurate scaling for all types of signals, including DVD (progressive or interlaced), all currently available HDTV formats, and computers. For video originally made in film, the CW-42 has build-in 3:2 pulldown for the sharpest and most artifact-free images possible. Like all Runco plasmas, it can be mounted on a wall, ceiling or placed on a tabletop and bright enough for use in any lighting situation.

Installation of the screen is not a difficult process ... but it does require some planning and an extra hand to lift and hang the unit if you're mounting it on the wall as we are. The bracket is extremely well built and strong ... in fact I think it will still be there after we are long gone. Most of the cabling is provided with the unit ... which is refreshing these days. In our case we had to feed the wire up to the attic ... over and down the wall to a location behind the unit. We had enough to do the job without any need for additional lengths.

Another nice thing provided with the Runco screen is the Pronto Neo remote ... already programmed with the Runco commands but of course all ready to learn the rest of the system components that you are using. A whole review could be done on this remote by itself but suffice to say that it is an industry standard and suitable to handle almost any home theater system. You'll probably end up using this one and putting the rest away for posterity.

Once the unit was mounted and connected all we had to do was turn it on (have a DVD ready for this step) and WOW ... middle of the day ... bright sunny room ... amazingly bright and clear picture ... right out of the box. This is how new technology should work!  After viewing little narrow DVD movies on the square TV screen for the last while ... this is like putting on a new pair of glasses. The screen is filled with a bright and beautiful image ... captivating to say the least. I think the TV advertising industry will rise to a whole new level once the majority of their audience is immersed into this kind of visual experience. Not sure if that is a good or bad thing but right now I'm craving a bud light :-(. What would it be like to watch the superbowl on this baby!

There's not much to operating the CW-42. Other versions of Runco plasma screens come with a separate video processor but this one has it all built into the unit. The basic controls allow you to turn the unit on and off and select the image size and aspect ratio that best shows the picture that you are watching. For more fine tuning and set-up there is an on screen menu with more options than I even understand. The nice thing I found was that I didn't need to tweek anything at all to get an amazing picture.

For those who need to know the details ... the Specs are listed below. For the rest ... just get one of these new toys ... plug it in and enjoy video entertainment like you never have before!
